Wesleyan Girls Lacrosse Team Falls to Lambert 21-15

Lade Wolves out-matched by strong play by several key players.

Wesleyan's Lady Wolves lacrosse team came up against a strong Lambert team losing 21-15 Monday night in girls high school action.   

The Lady Longhorns got off to a quick start just seconds into the game then scored four more times and were out front of the Lady Wesleyan Wolves 5-0.

Wesleyan got on the board with 21:00 left in the first half when Natalie Genthert scored the first of her three goals. Then the Wolves struck again when Courtney Batchelor scored to cut the Lady Longhorns lead to 5-2.

But in the end the team couldn't overcome the strong play of Jana Kasmarik, a Lambert Senior attacker and Johns Hopkins University committment who scored 10 goals and her teammate, Morgan  Shumate, who scored 9 to help lead the Lambert Lady Longhorns to their eventual win.

The Lady Wolves struck again when Batchelor scored to cut the Lady Longhorns' lead to 5-2. Batchelor struck two more times, and the Lady Wolves were back in the game, trailing only 5-4.

Kasmarik responded immediately by scoring another of her 10 goals to give the Lady Longhorns a 6-4 cushion.

Later in the half, the Lady Longhorns were up 8-6 when the Lady Wolves reeled off three straight goals, one by Caitlin Crabill and two by Natalie Genthert to give Wesleyan 9-8 lead, but Lambert scored two goals to close out the first half with a 10-9 lead.

The first few minutes of the second half was a see-saw battle with both teams having a one-goal lead. However, with the score tied 13-13, Lambert went on a five goal run to go up 18-13. 

Caroline Jordan pulled the Lady Wolves to within 4 when she scored with 9:04 left to play, but that was as close as the Lady Wolves would come.

The Lady Wolves were led in scoring by midfielder Courtney Batchelor with 5 goals and attacker Caroline Jordan with 4.  Natalie Genthert had 3 goals, Caitlin Crabill had 2 and Lizzy Eversbusch had 1 goal to round out the Lady Wolves' scoring.
