Wesleyan Girls Win Sixth Straight Basketball Title

The Lady Wolves beat Laney 76-43 in the Class AA girls final of the Georgia High School Association tournament in Macon.

The Wesleyan girls basketball dynasty continued Friday in the Georgia High School Association basketball finals at the Macon Centreplex.

The Lady Wolves ran away from Laney in the second half to beat the Lady Wildcats 76-43 in the Class AA championship game, their sixth consecutive state title.

The championship ties a state GHSA record first set by Hart County, which won six in a row from 1989 to 1994.

Wesleyan has now won 10 championships in 12 seasons under coach Jan Azar.

Friday's win was the fourth blowout win out of five state-tournament games for the Lady Wolves, who also had wins of 56, 49 and 48 leading up to the final.

Katie Frerking led the way with 28 points. Brittany Stevens added 14 and Paige Mosely had 11, according to statistics available via the GHSA website.
