Wesleyan Routs Pace Academy 44-21

QB Will Anderson, who missed four games with a knee injury, returned with six touchdowns as Wesleyan rolled to victory.

Quarterback Will Anderson passed for six touchdowns in his first game back from injury as handled Pace Academy 44-21 Friday night at Henderson Stadium.

The sophomore signal-caller had missed the previous four games with a knee injury, but looked crisp in the pocket most of the night, finishing with 322 passing yards.

Anderson's primary targets were junior Rodney Morris and senior Eric Sunderman, who started at quarterback while Anderson was hurt.

The Wolves' opening score came on a 6-yard touchdown catch by Harris, the first of four for the wide receiver.

Wesleyan quickly regained possession on a Michael Armstrong fumble recovery and were in business in Knights' territory. A few plays later, Anderson found Sunderman for a 15-yard scoring strike and it looked to be an easy night for Wesleyan.

The lead ballooned to 21-0 before Pace answered with a solid drive.

Freshman quarterback Kevin Johnson hit wideout Kameron Uter on a long pass to set up the Knights in the red zone. Denzel Franklin scored from a yard out to cut the lead to 21-7.

The Wolves were held to a Sunderman field goal on their next possession and Pace made the most of the defensive stand.

Johnson rolled to his right and let go a rainbow pass to Uter for 54 yards and the two hooked up again later for a 9-yard touchdown to make the score 24-14.

With the momentum seeming to shift, the Wolves got a huge kickoff return from Eric Gossett to the Pace 29-yard line. On the next play, Anderson threw a screen to Morris who covered the remaining 29 yards for the score.

Wesleyan caused another turnover on the ensuing drive as Rhett Delk recovered a Franklin fumble on the Wesleyan 47.

The Wolves took advantage of the field position and moved the ball effectively with Zander Yost toting the ball.

The drive ended with yet another touchdown pass from Anderson to Morris, but the extra point was missed to make the score 37-14.

Wesleyan's last scoring drive was a microcosm of the night. Yost took an halfback lead straight through the middle of Pace's defense for 30 yards.

Sunderman caught a 31-yard pass from Anderson to move the ball to the 6.

Anderson hit Morris on a perfectly-ran slant route for a 6-yard score to put the game out of reach.

The win brings Wesleyan's record to 4-2 on the year and 2-1 in Region 5-A North. The Wolves will travel to play King's Ridge Christian Friday night at 7:30.
