Wesleyan Beaten By Elbert Co. 27-10

Turnovers kept the Wolves from winning their home opener.

The Elbert County Blue Devils came to play Friday night at 's first home game of the season and took advantages of several fumbles by the Wolves and converted them into touchdowns that led to a 27-10 win.

The Blue Devils scored after the Wolves turned the ball over early in the first quarter. Elbert County defensive end Ira Robinson recovered and ran for a 25-yard touchdown. Demetrius Sanders scored the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead.

On the Wolves next possession, quarterback Will Anderson passed the ball effectively, giving Wesleyan two first-down opportunities. But another fumble by the Wolves was recovered by the Blue Devils, who capitalized again and turned the mistake into a 15-0 lead with 4:22 left in the first quarter.

The Wolves took over again, Anderson's pass to tight end Mason Colquitt set up a first down, one of several pass plays that put the Wolves in field-goal range. The half would end with Wesleyan down 15-3.

A fumble in the third quarter by the Blue Devils set up the Wolves only touchdown of the night. Eric Sunderman scored on Anderson's 28-yard pass for the touchdown. Then Sunderman kicked the extra point which closed the gap to 15-10.

But another Blue Devils touchdown with 5:30 left in the third quarter, put the Wolves behind 21-10.

Late in the third quarter, freshman Christian Stark took over as quarterback when Anderson was injured on a play. A few plays later a tipped pass set up the Blue Devils fourth touchdown of the night. With just 1:40 left in the third quarter Elbert County was leading 27-10.

The Wolves head north to Jefferson next week to face Twiggs County.
