Loving Adult Collie-Mix Ready for Adoption

By Elizabeth Hale

Meet "Lassie."

A wonderful, older female dog who is 7-8 years old and has an incredible story to tell about her hard journey back "home" with a loving, forever family. She is a collie-mix who has the beautiful head and muzzle of a Collie, mixed with the sleek body of a Lab or Retriever. She is very striking in person!

Here is a link to her recent appearance on the "Good Day Atlanta" program on Fox5 Atlanta: http://www.myfoxatlanta.com/story/22672026/good-day-pet-june-25

Lassie was found in a rural, high-kill shelter in Georgia and rescued by Angels Among Us Pet Rescue a few weeks ago. At the time she was rescued, she was so dehydrated and sick, she was literally hours from death in her cage at the shelter. She did not know how to get water from a drip tube and she didn't have a bowl in her run, so she was literally in a very serious condition. Her kidneys were almost shut down and you can see from the attached pictures what a horrible condition she was in at the time of rescue.

This dear girl was rushed immediately to a vet hospital where she remained in critical condition for almost a week, but with the unfailing love of a foster mom, and other volunteers who brought their children in to visit and love on Lassie during her most critical times, this wonderful dog made a huge turnaround and was able to go home with her foster mom to recover.

At the time of her vetting and hospital stay, she was also found to be HW positive but she will undergo HW treatment with Angels Among Us, and will be good as new once she gets through that. Lassie is a real trooper and is a wonderful example of what love, proper care, excellent vetting, and lots of prayer and support can do for an animal in great need!

Lassie is spayed and micro-chipped. She weighs about 60 pounds but could stand to gain another 10 pounds. She is very loving, adores children, and is constantly seeking attention and loving pats on her head and muzzle from her humans. She loves to go for walks, but doesn't require long runs or a ton of exercise.

She will need a secure, fenced in yard and due to being heartworm positive, will also require a quiet home where she can be calm and just relax as she goes through her treatment phase. In case you have worries, heartworms cannot be transferred to humans and there are no problems involved - just lots of loving care, and a quiet, calm place for her to hang out.

The shelter said she was brought in as a stray, and probably had to fight for her survival while out on her own. There is some thought that she also might have been attacked at some point by other large dogs, as she is not suited to be with other dogs her size and weight. She has been tested, though with other dogs around the 20-30 lbs. range and could be okay with them, as long as they are not aggressive or trying to jump at her or in her face.

We believe she would be best suited with a home that was hers alone, so she wouldn't have to compete for human love and attention. This poor girl is just so hungry for loving, affection, petting and attention, we think she'd be ideal as an only pet in the home.

She would also be a wonderful companion with either children and/or grandchildren and would be ideal for either a work-from-home or retiree who could give her the companionship she craves!

This poor girl has had a very hard life's journey so far. Won't YOU consider being her "forever" home and family, and give her the stability and love she craves so much? Collies are wonderful companion dogs and we have no doubt this girl was saved, and became a true "miracle dog" for a reason - and for a special family! Won't you be that "answer" to her prayer?
