UPCCA a Winner in Great American Cleanup

The United Peachtree Corners Civic Association was among the recent winners in the annual event co-sponsored by Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful.

For its efforts in cleaning up a portion of Peachtree Corners Circle this summer, the (UPCCA), was among the winners in the 2012 Great American Cleanup Gwinnett Challenge.

Over 40 groups and organizations took part in the challenge with each group designing its own project with the goal to become one of the 2012 Challenge winners.

Entering in the category, Put Litter in its Place, the of litter and debris from a portion of the roadway making Gwinnett's newest city a little cleaner and greener.

Winners were selected among seven different categories with each group earning a $500 cash prize. The selection was based on which project made the biggest transformation and impact on a neighborhood or community.

  • Brookwood Oaks Home Owners Association members gave 46 hours to improve their neighborhood by cleaning up two miles of roadway, collecting recyclables and planting trees.
  • Mill Creek High School Key Club removed litter and privet from Little Mulberry Park; 85 volunteers donated 255 hours to improving the park.
  • Lawrenceville Neighborhood Alliance replaced a rotten roof on an elderly gentlemen's house; 14 voluteers worked 180 hours on the project.
  • Teachers As Leaders collected over 1,100 books to give to children being treated at Gwinnett Medical Center. For their efforts each child will receive a free book when checking out from the hospital.
  • Primerica painted more than 660 feet of fencing to remove old graffiti at the entrance of a neighborhood on Old Norcross Road.
  • Keller Williams Realty Atlanta Partners built and planted vegetable and flower gardens at Sheltering Arms Children Daycare Center to be used by the center.
