Gwinnett Police were able to use DNA evidence recovered from the crime scene to make the arrest.
On Friday, May 11, Gwinnett Police arrested a convicted felon for the rape of a Peachtree Corners woman that occurred on March 18, 2012 in the Bristol Court Apartments. Police arrested Lorenzo Bradley, 40, who was living in a neighboring building in the same complex, said Cpl. Jake Smith, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department. Shortly after the crime, Gwinnett Police circulated a sketch of Lorenzo which lead to questioning by detectives. "Police had interviewed Bradley a few days after the attack, due to a 'suspicious person' call from another resident of the complex," said Smith. Gwinnett County Police need the public’s help to find a missing young woman from Buford. A Mattie’s Call has been issued for Christine Joyce Park, according to Gwinnett Police Officer Jeffery Richter. Park's parents reported about 12:45 p.m. Friday (May 11) that she had left home without notifying them. Christine is 21 years old, but her parents told police that she has the mental capacity of an 8-to 10-year-old child, Richter said. Christine is an Asian female with shoulder-length hair, approximately 5 foot 2 inches tall, and weighs approximately 112 pounds. She was last seen wearing navy blue pants and a red shirt. Two men were shot and killed Friday evening at an apartment complex in unincorporated Norcross in what police believe may be a drug-related incident. Gwinnett County Police were dispatched around to Highland Walk Apartments, located at 6069 S. Norcross Tucker Road, around 11:30 p.m. May 11, according to a press release from police spokesman Officer Jeffery Richter. When officers arrived near building 300, they noticed gunshot wounds to the two men, who died at the scene. Vandara Nao, 21, of Stone Mountain, was found near the incident scene and has been arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault. Johlonda Lindsey, the Meadowcreek High student who died in a car crash last weekend, will be laid to rest Saturday, according to 11Alive. According to the report, a viewing is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Home, located at 914 Scenic Highway in Lawrenceville. Four or five cars went off the track, causing its load of grain to spill.
A train went off its tracks in unincorporated Lawrenceville Tuesday afternoon. At around 3pm, four or five cars went off the tracks behind Caboose Ct. Near the intersection of Sugarloaf Pkwy and Lawrenceville Hwy. The cars were carrying cornmeal which spilled on to the sides of the tracks. The train rolls behind the house where John Lumpkin and his brother Donald live. The two did hear the commotion. "But we're so used to hearing the train roll by, we never thought nothing about it," said John. Cpl. Jake Smith of the Gwinnett County Police Department said CSX, who owns the tracks, expects to have the cars upright and the cornmeal cleaned up by Wednesday morning. Update, 10:15 p.m. Around 200 students, faculty members and locals attended a vigil for the deceased student Sunday evening at Meadowcreek High, according to a report from the Gwinnett Daily Post. Others left memorials near the accident site on Steve Reynolds Boulevard. The report also notes that the third person injured is also a student. Gwinnett Fire-Swift Water Rescue rescued two individuals and one dog stranded on an island in the Chattahoochee River near Buford Dam late Saturday, according to a media release. Lt. Eric Eberly said Sunday that the individuals reported in a 911 call that their boat was quickly taking on water and was about to sink when they made it to the island. Within a short period of time, swift water crews found the party of three in no distress, Eberly said. No injuries were reported. Names were not released. A Norcross High student is in a coma after a joy ride accident Wednesday, according to WSB-TV. The news station reported that Norcross PD believes eight students skipped school and went car surfing, which involves hanging on the side of a vehicle. When the car was turning in a Norcross neighborhood off Beaver Ruin Road, it flipped and trapped 16-year-old Alex Mora under the car. He is currently in a medically induced coma at Gwinnett Medical Center, according to WSB-TV. The driver, Alejandro Barrita-Rodriguez, also a Norcross High student, was arrested for reckless driving, hit-and-run, driving without a license and serious injury by vehicle. Gwinnett County Police have released the 9-1-1 call from a man who says he's a friend of James Clark. The call was made in an attempt to help Clark, who the caller said was going through a rough time after his fiancee had just left him. Police shot and killed Clark Thursday evening after he approached them with a rifle aimed at the officers. Clark's father and brother were arrested following the incident for disorderly conduct. Gwinnett County Police responded to a call of a man attempting commit suicide on Trophy Trail Thursday at around 7:30pm. Police say the man, James Clark, was armed with a hunting rifle when they arrived at the home. GCPD says they tried to negotiate with Clark, but attempts failed and police were forced to shoot the man. He was later pronounced dead. According to WSB-TV, Clark's father, Thomas, and brother, Robert, arrived to the house shortly after the shooting. Police arrested Clark's father of Winder, and his brother of Snellville, and charged them both with disorderly conduct.
