Our intrepid Peachtree Corners resident continues her journey in training for her first triathlon.
The whole hot mess started on St. Patrick's Day. My triathlon training partner-in-crime (Donna) and I had just finished a 10-mile bike ride. We were within spitting distance of an Irish pub, and despite the fact that we were beyond sweaty disgusting in our bike shorts and tops, we stopped in for a post-ride beer in celebration. We managed to score a table, and noticed three ridiculously cute 20 something Guinness Girls strolling around, wearing ultra-short green tutus, serving beers. At that exact moment, Donna and I looked at each other, and burst out in unison, "Tutus. We NEED …

As the world wonders about the possible link between football and long-term brain health, does that impact how you feel about kids playing the game?
There already has been plenty of discussion linking Junior Seau's suicide and the cumulative effects of violent collisions he sustained during his illustrious NFL career. The former San Diego Chargers and New England Patriots linebacker died of a self-inflicted gunshot to the chest last week. In our quest to know why a 43-year-old former football star would take his own life, we quickly latch on to what we've seen previously — a growing list of former players who've suffered depression, dementia and other neurological problems. So what do you think? Does the possibility of concussions in youth and high school football concern you? Add your comments at the end of this article. Last year, former Pro Bowl safety Dave Duerson died of a self-…

As part of a national effort to keep kids fit, the Peachtree Corners facility has planned a day filled with fun for the entire family. And the best part - it's free.
Summer is the time for kids to get up, go out, play and explore. But sometimes when the school year ends, so does a child’s exposure to stimulating activities. Studies show that kids with access summer camps, tutoring and travel keep learning when school's out, while those without such advantages gain weight and fall behind. Too much unstructured time can lead to lazy summer days in front of the TV or an electric screen, snacking on junk food. As part of a nationwide effort to encourage kids to get moving, Fowler YMCA will host a Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 28 from 10 to 12:30 p.m. This free community event is a day filled with fun, engaging and creative activities that support healthy living, and is a part of the Y's larger …
