Starting and ending times for Gwinnett schools are set and revised if necessary to accommodate academic programs, scheduling, and transportation. Three of Gwinnett County’s Public Schools will have new school times beginning with the 2012-13 year, according to GCPS. The new school times are effective on Aug. 6, the first day of school. The new hours are as follows: Gwinnett InterVention Education Centers offer an alternative program for middle and high school students. The Hooper Renwick School offers special education programs. School hours for all GCPS schools are available on the school system’s website at www.gwinnett.k12.ga.us.

As the summer vacation winds down, Gwinnett County Public School officials are already releasing information to get students prepared for a return to classrooms. According to a press release, the 2012/2013 school year is the first time in more than a decade that no new school facilities will open, although there will be one expansion. Gwinnett County Online campus is adding middle school classes. There are about 265 new students expected for the upcoming school year, bringing the total enrollment to 162,635. In the GSPS system there are 132 facilities, including 77 elementary schools 26 middle schools, 19 high schools and 10 special entities. School begins in Gwinnett County on Monday, Aug. 6. And although no new schools open this fall in Gwinnett, several construction and technology projects are under way as part of the school system’s SPLOST IV capital program, according to a Gwinnett schools news release. Voters approved an extension of the 1 cent sales tax for schools in November 2011, and it went into effect on July 1, 2012. Gwinnett County school buses will start rolling again in just a few days. Beginning July 30, Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) buses will be on the road as drivers prepare for the Aug. 6 start of school. According to a GCPS press release, drivers will run their assigned routes during actual drive times from Tuesday, July 31, through Friday, Aug. 3 with limited practice runs on Thursday. The routes will be run both mornings and afternoons. During the first few days of school, GCPS officials advise parents to have their children at the bus stop approximately 15 minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive. Some Peachtree Corners students will see a new face at the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year. A new principal has been named for Berkeley Lake Elementary School.
Twenty-one schools will welcome new principals this year due to retirements and veteran principals transferring to other schools. Berkeley Lake Elementary School is among the Gwinnett County Public Schools with a new principal at the helm this year. Earlier this year, William Bishop was named the new principal at Norcross High School. He replaced Jonathan Patterson who was promoted to Area Superintendent in January of this year. New Principals for the 2012-13 School Year: The principals listed below were appointed during the past school year. This year will mark their first full year as the school’s leader.

Before the bell rings on August 6 signaling the first day of school Norcross High School is holding two registration days for new or transferring students. Whether a student is new to the Norcross cluster or seeking to transfer high schools, rising freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors are welcome to stop by the school July 23 and July 24 to meet with counselors for enrollment. I don't know how his doesn't sound healthy.it's better than what was available several years ago. My kid's complaint is that lunch is too short and the lines too long. By the time they get the food there is barely time to eat. So one brings lunch and the other gets pizza - it's the fastest line.   more ›
