The project is to be funded by the 2009 SPLOST program. Work on new walkways will coincide with the city's dam repair project.
On Tuesday the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners announced it had approved a contract for the construction of a pedestrian safety project for the City of Berkeley Lake which includes sidewalks, curb, gutter and other improvements to several of the city's major roads. The road improvements will be made to North Berkeley Lake Road west of Lakeshore Drive to Bush Road according to a press release from the county. “This project ties together a network of pedestrian facilities to enhance the quality of life in this part of the county,” said Gwinnett DOT Director Kim Conroy. The installation of the new sidewalks will be completed in conjunction with the city's dam reconstruction project and "will run continuously from Peachtree Industrial …

Checking the "yes" box in favor of amending the state's constitution was not an easy one to make said one voter who is still not sure she made the right decision.
For Georgia voters the Charter School Amendment has almost overshadowed the race for the presidency. The decision to give the state the authority to create a charter school commission has been a subject of major debate over the past few months. And the decision to vote "yes" was no easy decision for Camille Cottrell, an Emory University instructor and card-carrying Democrat who said she's still not sure she made the right decision. "It was a very, very tough vote for me," said Cottrell a Berkeley Lake resident. "I believe very much in the public school system." It was a battle of heart versus intellect she said. "I know my vote is going to cause an argument with my mother when I get home tonight." But Cottrell said she couldn't help notice…

The first Peachtree Corners Art Fest at Berkeley Lake held Oct. 13-14 brought people from surrounding cities to enjoy the fall weather. And there was plenty of fun and entertainment for the entire family at the two day festival which was held in the City of Berkeley Lake on a site located on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. Festival goers enjoyed shopping for handcrafted artwork, pottery, handmade jewelery and plenty more. And there was pumpkins to paint and plenty of good food. "I was thrilled by the support from the community both Berkeley Lake and Peachtree Corners," said Jay Lowe, with Peachtree Corners Events, the company that organized the festival. "The event was a wonderful place for fellowship with good old friends and new." Lowe …

The inaugural Peachtree Corners Art Fest, planned for Oct. 13 - has a new name - and a new venue for the one day festival. The event organizer, Jay Lowe, announced the name and location change recently. The event will now be held at a location on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in the city limits of Berkeley Lake, thus the name change. Its new name - Peachtree Corners Art Fest at Berkeley Lake - reflects the location change, but Lowe said there will be many Peachtree Corners local artists, restaurants and other businesses who will have display booths at the event. The decision to move the event Lowe said was because Jay Bird Alley, the original location for the event, could not be closed to traffic. Lowe presented the idea and information …

Along busy Peachtree Industrial Boulevard is a new restaurant and bar with a rather catchy name, G.A.B.B.A.'s - and a great view. The eatery's spacious patio offers a tree-top view of the surrounding area. Great American Burger Boutique & Ale, or G.A.B.B.A. for short, opened in May in the space once occupied by Three Dollar Cafe. And just as the name suggests, it's known for its Black Angus burgers - and selection of 30 craft beers. The restaurant also offers a nice selection of sandwiches and entrees such as Grilled BBQ Salmon and a Bistro Steak which is bacon wrapped and topped with melted blue cheese. But, it's the burgers that is the most popular says Brian Sanford, the executive chef and one of the three owners and managing partners…

July rains had caused delays in construction but contractor back on target.
The City of Berkeley Lake is undergoing $3.6 million major repairs to its dam and road renovations to North Berkeley Lake Road, a main thoroughfare through the community. The dam was damaged in the historic September 2009 rainfall that caused severe damage to the 64-year-old earthen dam that runs along side North Berkeley Lake Road. The city's mayor, Lois Salter, reports that the repairs to the dam and road are on schedule despite a set back caused by a number of rainy days in July. "I'm happy to report that although they [the contractors] had unavoidably gotten somewhat behind a few weeks ago, they have worked very hard to catch up and are now again on schedule ..." Salter said, "The contractor has brought the select fill material up to …

I voted NO! Why? Considering the real state of schools today, I cannot completely blame educators, or even student performance on tests for the the margin of success we see. In most cases, the missing elements include funding and parental involvement. Putting "our" money in a new school system won't ever solve those problems. Everyone needs to wake up. Furthermore, I wonder who will the state …   more ›
