Norcross High's Winning Basketball Teams Amp Up MaxPreps Rating

Norcross High School now at top of latest MaxPreps Cup rankings.

Norcross High School has jumped to the top of one well-known sports ranking, thanks to its winning girls and boys basketball championships. MaxPreps Cup standings place the Blue Devils as No. 1 currently, according to a May 20 report. The No. 2 spot is currently held by of Carmel High School in Indiana. The MaxPreps Cup ranks the top high school sports programs in the nation based on their success in a number of sports. Football, boys and girls cross country, volleyball, boys and girls basketball and wrestling are in the current standings. Once spring sports are added, the standings will likely change. Those final rankings will be published in July. No matter the final MaxPreps Cup rankings, Norcross High has had a stellar sports year. …

NHS Girls Basketball Players Nominated for McDonald's Game

Diamond DeShields and Shayla Cooper of Norcross High have a chance to play in the prestigious high school all-star game.

Nine high school basketball players from Gwinnett County, two from Norcross High, have been nominated to play in the annual McDonald's All-American all-star games later this year. Diamond DeShields and Shayla Cooper of the Lady Blue Devils were both selected. The other six players, who all play for girls teams, include: Lexie Brown and Peyton Whitted of North Gwinnett High; Kaela Davis and Kristina Nelson of Buford High; and Brookwood High's Courtney Gardner and Rebecca Walker. Isaiah Williams from Buford High was nominated as a boys all-star. The final rosters will be determined Feb. 14. Blue Devils' Running Back Named to 2012 All-American Football Team

Alvin Kamara, the all-star running back at Norcross High, earned the honor of being on the second team offense by MaxPreps.

Alvin Kamara, the all-star running back for Norcross High, was named to the second team offense on the MaxPreps 2012 All-American Football Team. "In leading the nation's No. 3 team, Kamara earned Class AAAAAA Player of the Year honors according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution," says the story by MaxPreps' Stephen Spiewak. "He rushed 303 times for 2,264 yards and 26 touchdowns." The 5-feet, 10-inch, 195-pound Kamara played his senior season on the offensive line. He helped the Blue Devils reach an undefeated 2012 season and win the AAAAAA state championship title, the first championship win for Norcross in its 57-year run. Blue Devils Ranked No. 1 in State

The Georgia High School Football Daily released the final state rankings as determined by Maxwell Ratings - and Norcross High School's varsity football team ended up in the top spot.

The Georgia High School Football Daily released the Maxwell Ratings' final state rankings this week, and Norcross High ended up on top. The Blue Devils reached the No. 1 spot in the All-Classification category for Georgia's 412 football-playing schools. The ranking comes at no surprise since Norcross was named the No. 3 team in the country in the Xcellent 25 National Football Rankings earlier this week. Also, Norcross was named the High 5 Sports Team of the Year. In the state rankings, Norcross is followed by Lovejoy High at No. 2, No. 3's North Gwinnett, Camden County at No. 4, and Sandy Creek in the fifth slot. Norcross Wins Class AAAAAA Football Title

The Blue Devils defeated Lovejoy High 21-14 in the state championship game.

After an undefeated 14-win season, the Blue Devils added one more win Saturday at the Georgia Dome. Norcross High defeated Lovejoy High 21-14 in the state football championship,  earning the Class AAAAAA title for the first time. The game had a slow start with nothing on the board until Lovejoy scored a 60-yard touchdown in the second quarter for a 7-0 lead. Norcross kicked a field goal in the third quarter, but the Wildcats answered with another touchdown minutes later, taking a 14-3 lead. Norcross' winning points came in the fourth quarter with Alvin Kamara's 61-yard touchdown reception, which was followed by another touchdown by the running back. Viewfinder: Norcross Defeats South Gwinnett in Playoffs

The Blue Devils will play against Camden County next Friday.

The Norcross Blue Devils beat the South Gwinnett Comets 27-7 last Friday, Nov. 23, in the second round of football playoffs. Norcross also played South Gwinnett earlier this year in the 2012 season opener at Snellville, and the Blue Devils won 35-20. Norcross High remains undefeated this season with 12 wins. The team's next game will be against the Camden County High Wildcats next Friday, Nov. 30, and it will be determined this Saturday, Nov. 23, if the game will be held at the Blue Devils stadium or at Camden. Blue Devils Ranked No. 3 After Win Over N. Gwinnett

Friday's 31-21 win over North Gwinnett moved Norcross up six spots in the Class AAAAAA rankings.

Peachtree Corners' Norcross High School football fans have reason to celebrate. The Blue Devil's 31-21 win at North Gwinnett not only put the Blue Devils in the lead in the Region 7-AAAAAA standings. It also moved them up in this week's state rankings, released Monday by the Georgia High School Football Daily and Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Norcross is listed No. 3 in the rankings, behind top-ranked Camden County and No. 2 Lassiter. The Blue Devils were previously ranked No. 9. North Gwinnett fell from No. 5 to No. 7.
