Also on the agenda was Crowell Brothers Funeral Home's request for a special use permit to add a crematory. Late Tuesday afternoon the owners asked that their request be deferred until a later date.
The expected decision on the Crowell Brothers Funeral Home's special use permit to add a crematory was deferred by the applicant leaving the Peachtree Corners City Council with only a handful of other decisions making for a short evening. A number of residents living near the funeral home showed up at the meeting expecting to hear the City Council's decision. But, earlier in the day, Jeff Crowell, president of Crowell Brothers Funeral Home sent a letter to City Hall asking their request be tabled for two months. Mr. Crowell said he hoped to continue meeting with concerned residents to distribute and discuss accurate information on the proposed crematory. Peachtree Corners resident Herbert H. Strickland died Wednesday, March 13, 2013. He was 76. The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 p.m., Friday, March 15th, in the Worship Center of Peachtree Corners Baptist Church in Peachtree Corners. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 16th, in the Worship Center of Peachtree Corners Baptist Church. Mr. Strickland was a U.S. Army veteran and Divisional Sales Manager who retired from RJR Nabisco. Mr. Strickland was very family oriented and heavily involved in the community. Michael Scott Hudgens, 64, of Duluth, a philanthropist and son of the late Gwinnett developer Scott Hudgens Jr., passed away Feb. 6. The family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel Funeral Home, located at 5051 Peachtree Industrial Blvd. in Peachtree Corners. Mr. Hudgens attended the University of Georgia and was a retired U.S. Army Veteran. He enjoyed his family, being with friends and working on the family farm, where he spent most of his time. An avid NASCAR fan, he also enjoyed spending time at his home on the lake. Mr. Hudgens was preceded in death by his father; his brother, Mark R. Hudgens; and sister, Marcia Duggan. LTC Byron Craig Brown (Ret), 67, of Peachtree Corners, GA, died in a traffic accident on Nov 4 in Cobb County. He was born Nov 2 in Aurora, CO, to Byron Winfield and Eleanor Jean Comolli Brown of Greenville, OH. He and his two brothers, Bruce Allen Brown, Manhattan Beach, CA, and Gary Lee Brown, Centralia, WA, moved with their parents to Army posts in Ft. Sam Houston, TX, Ft. Belvoir, VA, and Japan. All three Brown brothers attained Eagle Scout rank and continued the military tradition of the family. Byron graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in Alexandria, VA, and completed his BS in Political Science at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN, in 1967. From Kennesaw Patch A single car wreck early Sunday morning (Nov. 4) killed 67-year-old Byron C. Brown of Peachtree Corners, a spokesman for the Cobb County Police Department said today. The fatal crash occurred at 1:15 a.m. when Brown, who was driving a silver 2009 Hyundai Azera north on Interstate 575, got off at the Barrett Parkway exit without slowing down, Officer Mike Bowman said. "He then continued northbound crossing all lanes of Barrett Parkway and collided with a retaining wall on the north side of the roadway at a high rate of speed," Bowman said. Brown died at the scene of the crash, which remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 770-499-3987.
