New 'Footloose' Movie Is Same Old Song and Dance

The movie that made kids dance in the 80s is back with a new cast and new moves, but basically the same storyline.

A remake of the original from 1984, "Footloose" pits old farts who hate rock and roll against wild, young, dancing teens who want to shake their groove thing all night long. The story remains basically the same. Some teens, including the son of a local reverend, are killed in a car accident after a night of dancing and partying. The reverend (Dennis Quaid) then leads the drive to pass an ordinance forbidding public dancing. Fast forward a few years. Now the reverend's daughter Ariel, played by Julianne Hough, starts to stir up controversy by participating in some forbidden, underground dancing. Plus the new kid in town, Ren McCormack (Kenny Wormald) stirs up even more controversy in the role originally played by Kevin Bacon.   McCormack, …

Steelers WR Ward Arrested for DUI in DeKalb

Former UGA star, Super Bowl MVP was arrested early Saturday and released on bond.

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward's DUI arrest occurred near the intersection of Buford Highway and Briarwood Road, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitition. DeKalb police told the paper that Ward was stopped about 2:30 a.m. Saturday after a DeKalb officer noticed Ward, in his Aston Martin, failing to maintain a lane and then hitting a curb. Ward, a former University of Georgia star, failed a field sobriety test, and refused to take a breathalyzer test. He told officers he been at a downtown club, and had had two drinks. According to police, a passenger in Ward’s car had not been drinking, and he was allowed to drive the car instead of it being impounded. Ward was released from Dekalb County Jail on $1,000 bond following …

Local Theatre Arts Company Celebrates Eight Years of Success

Peachtree Corners dance studio prepares students for a lifetime of music and dance -- and maybe even a future on Dancing With the Stars.

Eight years ago, Jenn Harmon and her husband Shawn, foresaw the need for a dance school in the Peachtree Corners area. With an entrepreneurial spirit, they formed the Priceless Performers Dance and Theatre Arts Company. They set the school’s mission “to provide students of all ages with the skills they need to enjoy music and dance for a lifetime.” This naturally led to a musical theatre approach which combines acting, singing, and dancing. “It is designed to help kids learn all of the basics of musical theatre in a fun, creative, and supporting environment. It is the idea of using music, singing, and dance to create characters and tell a story." Next, they wanted to instill in their students a sense of community service and this evolved …
