Life in the Pass Lane: HOT Registration Now Open

Electronic sticker will be commuter’s ticket to ride in the high occupancy toll lanes.

Planning to use the high occupancy toll (HOT) lanes later this year? Motorists intending to travel in what are currently HOV (high occupancy vehicle) lanes may now register for the Peach Pass -- a small electronic sticker that will be used to bill motorists for their time in the HOT lane. For the past several months, the Georgia Department of Transportation has been working to convert the HOV lanes to HOT lanes. The $11.7 million project includes the installation of tolling technology and equipment, new signs and new sign structures along 16 miles of I-85 express lanes in Gwinnett and DeKalb counties. Work on I-85 Express Lane System Expected All Week

Some lanes to close during daytime hours, evening work also scheduled.

Construction of the new Express Lane System along I-85 continues this week. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) reports lane closures are planned during the day and overnight on the I-85 Express Lanes project in Gwinnett and DeKalb counties. According to the GDOT the installationthe installation of overhead signage is almost complete on the Express Lane Project. Daytime work is planned for the coming week between 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the northbound lanes and southbound work hours are scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., between peak commute hours. Lane Closures Continue On I-85 For Signage Of New HOT Lanes

HOV lanes will close overnight and during non-peak travel times to complete installation of the signage on the new HOT lanes.

As weather permits, lane closures will continue in Gwinnett and DeKalb counties next week along Interstate 85 due to construction of the overhead signage on the new High Occupancy Toll lanes. According to a press release from the Georgia Department of Transportation, traffic pacing can only occur in that night’s work zone between 12 a.m. and 4 a.m. Below is the work plan for the upcoming week, released by GDOT, for the necessary work on the more than 60 new signs required for the project. Daytime work will occur on the northbound lanes from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on the southbound lanes from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., so as to avoid disruption during peak traveling times. Delays Expected This Weekend on I-85

Resurfacing and striping work will close lanes on SR 316 all weekend.

Georgia DOT road work on S.R. 316 is expected to back up traffic on I-85 this weekend.  The work is expected to begin on Friday, June 3 at 9 p.m. and continue until Monday, June 6 at 5 a.m. One or two lanes of 316 eastbound from I-85 to Sugarloaf Parkway will be closed during that time, with bottlenecks expected on SR 316 and 85, according to the DOT.  Old asphalt will be remove  and replaced and lanes will be striped as part of the work. I-85 Lane Closures Today and Tomorrow

During the day, the inside lanes may be closed. At night, up to four lanes of I-85 could shut down.

Today and tomorrow, expect inside lane closures on I-85 during off-peak hours. The closures are happening as part of the I-85 Express Lane Project, in which the current HOV lane is being converted to a HOT lane by the Georgia DOT.  The road work will only happen if weather permits.  The daytime work will occur between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Wed., June 1 and Thurs., June 2 between Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Pleasantdale Road. Weekly Road Construction Report

Watch out for the orange barrels, there are few road closures and detours in the Peachtree Corners and Berkeley Lake communities.

The Gwinnett Department of Transportation reports road construction on the following roads located in and around Peachtree Corners and Berkeley Lake which may result in lane closures or detours for the week of May 14-20. Bush Road from Summertree Court to Lou Ivy Road will require intermittent lane closures through July 2011 for sidewalk improvements, weather permitting. More Lane Closures Planned for I-85 This Week

Georgia DOT continues work on HOV lanes.

The Georgia Department of Transportation has advised that work along Interstate 85 this week will require closure of some HOV lanes in Gwinnett County. Daytime work along the median wall will close the lane in some locations in both directions. Work hours northbound are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and southbound work hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The locations are: Monday, April 11: From Sugarloaf Parkway to north of Old Peachtree Road. GDOT Closes Technology Pkwy for Repairs

The road will be closed for emergency storm drainage repairs for the next two weeks.

Peachtree Corners and Berkeley Lake commuters who use Technology Parkway will be facing a detour for the next few weeks. The Georgia Department of Transportation announced this afternoon that Technology Parkway from SR 141 to Technology Parkway South will be closed for approximately two weeks for emergency storm drainage repairs. The detour route will be Technology Parkway to SR 141 to Spalding Drive to Technology Parkway and reverse.
