Gas Prices Are Going Up - Again

During the past two weeks the cost for a gallon of gas has risen 25 cents, the biggest jump in almost a year.

No, it's not your imagination - gas prices are going up. In just the past 26 days the cost at the pumps has steadily increased. And in the past two weeks the cost of a gallon of gas has jumped 25 cents. The average price of a gallon of gas is now $3.59 nationally. In Peachtree Corners the price is averaging around $3.45 according to GasBuddy.com and $3.55.6 in metro Atlanta. What's driving the prices up? The increased cost of crude oil, oil refinery shutdowns and speculation say the experts. The cost is not expected to drop until spring. “This is a very early rise,” says Tom Kloza, chief oil analyst at the Oil Price Information Service. “January has tended to be a quiet month through the years, but the rally really began in earnest around …

Pain at the Pump in California - Could it Spread East?

Economists say some of the contributing factors to California's recent spike in fuel costs could happen in other areas of the country? Should the government intervene to help bring gas prices down nationwide?

Californians are in shock at the recent spike in fuel prices, with many pumps already registering over $5 and even $6 a gallon. While most of us in the rest of the country breath a sigh of relief that we don’t live there right now, economists are warning that it might not be a good idea to get too complacent. According to a story in MSN Money, the scenario that set up California for its current gas woes is one that could happen anywhere in the US. Some of the reasons cited are an Aug. 6 fire at Chevron, a power failure in Southern California and a Chevron pipeline that was shut down. According to MSN Money, these are all things that could have a similar impact on the fuel cost anywhere in the U.S. should the same thing happen. One of the …

Gasoline Prices Near $4 Mark

Hurricane Isaac is being blamed on the recent increase at the pumps, but how high will gas prices rise?

Drivers in Peachtree Corners were feeling the pain at the pump on Wednesday afternoon. The cost of a gallon of gas has been steadily inching its up over the summer. Prices at the Peachtree Corners QT on Peachtree Parkway and Peachtree Corners Parkway at 2 p.m. were edging up to the $4 mark for a gallon of regular gas. According to a report on WPXI.com, a news station in Pittsburgh, "Gasoline prices have risen in recent weeks because of the higher oil prices and refinery problems in the Midwest and West Coast. At $3.75, the national average is at its highest level since May 9 and it is up about 42 cents from the low reached on July 2." In July 31, the average gas price in Atlanta metro area was $3.52 - as of Aug. 29, 2012, the cost has …

Gas Prices Creeping Up Again

It's not an illusion - we're paying more for gas than just a month ago.

As if you didn't already know, gas prices are on the rise again. According to an NPR report we're paying 30 cents more per gallon then this time last month. What's the reason? Two oil-refinery blazes in two U.S. cities are to blame. The fires have interrupted production - and the drought which is to blame for the higher cost to produce corn-based ethanol. Gas price comparison - then and now: Historically gas prices begin to fall after Labor Day - so that means in about three weeks hopefully, we'll see the cost of a gallon of gas slowly begin to drop. To find the best places to buy gas in Peachtree Corners use our "Commute" tab at the top of the Peachtree Corners Patch homepage to find the lowest priced gas in the area. The information is …

Experts Say Gas Could Rise to $4 a Gallon by Summer

Will you change your driving habits if gas prices hit the four buck mark?

Prices have surged past the $100 a barrel mark again and "Business Insider" reports that "some oil analysts predict $4.50 a gallon or more by Memorial Day on the West Coast and major cities across the United States such as Chicago, New York and Atlanta." There are several factors affecting gasoline prices, since the Great Recession Americans have been driving less due to unemployment or fear of losing their jobs. And those Americans still willing to spend their hard-earned dollars are sliding into the seat in front of their computers rather than sliding behind the wheel of their car, reports "The Wall Street Journal," as e-commerce figures shows a 16 percent increase in onlines sales in the fourth quarter of 2011. But in February 2010, we …
