Look Out for Deer: Traffic Collisions Increase During Fall

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources warns that this is the time of the year for increased opportunities for "deer collisions".

With the heavily wooded areas of Peachtree Corners, there's an abundance of deer that live in the thick woods that surround this city by the river. They're cute when you see them at Yellow River Game Ranch. They're annoying when they eat your vegetables from your garden. They're epic and memorable when you finish watching the original Bambi. And this time of the year, deer can do damage and real harm to humans.  The Georgia Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Resources Division put out an alert this week about increased deer sightings this fall. Outdoor Burning Allowed Beginning Oct. 1

Peachtree Corners residents should follow the county ordinances outlined below.

Just in time for the onslaught of falling leaves, the ban on summer burning has been lifted effective today, Oct. 1, 2012. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources restricts open burning during the summer months in metro Atlanta to comply with Federal Clean Air Regulations. “Outdoor burning is a significant contributor of pollutants that can form unhealthy levels of ozone in the air we breathe,” said Lieutenant Colin Rhoden, Gwinnett County Fire Public Information Officer.  Gwinnett County has ordinance restrictions that cover all outdoor burning. some types of fires require a permit. Another Drowning Reported at Lake Lanier

Doraville man, 25, dies while swimming across a cove at Van Pugh Park on Labor Day.

A 25-year-old Doraville man drowned at Lake Lanier on Labor Day (Sept. 3). Kyle Miller drowned at Van Pugh Park at about 4 p.m. Monday, Melissa Cummings, communications/outreach specialist for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources reported. Miller, from Doraville, was swimming across a cove at the day-use area with two others when he went under. The Hall County Dive Team recovered his body in about 15 feet of water some 20 yards from the bank at 4:22 p.m., Cummings reported.

Smog Alert Issued for Memorial Day

A Code Orange Unhealthy Air Quality alert has been issued for Metro Atlanta on Memorial Day for the local area, including Peachtree Corners and Berkeley Lake.

The Metro Atlanta area, including Peachtree Corners and Berkeley Lake, is under a Code Orange unhealthy air quality alert for Memorial Day. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources, environmental protection division, issued a Code Orange alert, meaning the air quality has been deemed to be unhealthy for sensitive groups. Under Code Orange conditions, the air is likely to be unhealthy for some people such as children or people who are sensitive to Ozone. People with heart or lung disease are advised to limit prolonged outdoor exertion during the late afternoon or early evening when Ozone concentrations are highest.
