Georgia Gwinnett College President to Lead Gwinnett Chamber

Dr. Daniel J. Kaufman, charter president of GGC, to assume chamber leadership role July 1.

Dr. Daniel J. Kaufman, charter president of Georgia Gwinnett College, has been named new president and CEO of the 2,700-member Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce. The chamber’s board of directors made the announcement March 14. Dr. Kaufman will officially assume leadership of the Duluth-based chamber July 1 after transitioning out of his current position at GGC. Gwinnett Chamber, Civic Leaders Travel to Europe to Build Business Ties

The December 2012 trip to Germany and France was to enrich business ties, and open new ones.

A delegation of Gwinnett business and government leaders targeted several European businesses in a December 2012 trip to Europe. Gwinnett District 2 Commissioner Lynette Howard, Suwanee Mayor Jimmy Burnette and Norcross Mayor Bucky Johnson were among those who traveled to France and Germany for six days to strengthen business ties with companies there. The delegation was led by Gwinnett Chamber VP Nick Masino, a former Suwanee mayor. Masino explained recently that several companies from France and Germany already are doing business in Gwinnett. So the mission in part was to visit with officials from those companies on their home turf. Also, the delegation paved the way for a later visit to Europe by State of Georgia business officials, …

1818 Club's Food Service Permit Suspended, Reinstated

The dining club was reinspected a few hours after its suspension following inspection Jan. 31. Its 67-U score improved to a 100.

  Food service at the prestigious members-only 1818 Club located on the top floor of the Gwinnett County Chamber of Commerce in Duluth was halted for a few hours Thursday (Jan. 31) after the dining club failed its food inspection, and its food service permit was suspended. 1818 Club Manager Jeff Campione reported Friday, Feb. 1, that the club was reinspected three hours after the suspension at its request. “We have a health score of 100 hanging on the wall right now,” he said. Food service resumed at the club Thursday following the improved score. Jim Maran Plans to Retire From Gwinnett Chamber

Chamber President and CEO has led chamber through tough economic times.

Jim Maran plans to retire as president and CEO of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce at the end of this year, according to a press release issued Sept. 7 by the chamber. Peachtree Corners Patch and other Gwinnett Patch community news sites will be on hand at the Gwinnett Chamber Business Expo & Job Fair on Thursday, Aug. 23.

Gingrich Speaking in Duluth on Super Tuesday

GOP presidential candidate to speak at Gwinnett Chamber breakfast March 6 at 1818 Club.

  Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich has called his home state of Georgia important to his election success in 2012, and he's showing it again by returning to Gwinnett County. The former U.S. House Speaker from Georgia plans to be in Duluth on Super Tuesday (March 6) and speak at a 7:45 a.m. Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce Public Policy Breakfast. Gingrich recently spoke in Suwanee in Gwinnett and in Cumming in Forsyth County. Georgia is among 11 states that will hold primaries or caucuses on March 6, and with 73 delegates at stake, this state is the biggest prize that day. Nathan Grice has been named the 2012 STAR student for Wesleyan School by the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce, local sponsor of the STAR program. Leadership Gwinnett Class Named

Forty selected for 27th class to learn about county, train to be future leaders from August to May.

For the next nine months, representatives of Gwinnett business, civic, and cultural entities will learn about the county and prepare for future leadership roles. The 40 participants of the 2011-12 Class of Leadership Gwinnett were chosen from nearly 800 nominations for the experience according to an announcement by the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce. Leadership Gwinnett alumni selected the final group based on work experience, accomplishments, community involvement, education, and other information. This group will be the 27th Leadership Gwinnett class. Chamber Hosting Expo, Job Fair Thursday

Attendance is free, but registration is required.

The 2011 Gwinnett Chamber Business Expo & Job Fair offers opportunities for more than 200 exhibitors to generate new business and job seekers to approach companies with openings on Thursday, Aug. 18, at the Convention Center at Gwinnett Center from noon to 5 p.m.  The Business EXPO and Job Fair follows a chamber General Membership Luncheon featuring Georgia Attorney General Sam Olens as the speaker. A new attraction at the Expo this year is a silent auction presented by Delta Community Credit Union.
