An apparent dispute with his wife has landed Ivan Jaramillo, 42 in the Gwinnett County Jail on a first-degree arson charge.
A Lawrenceville man was arrested Wednesday (May 1) for setting his home on fire after a domestic dispute with his wife. Ivan Jaramillo, 42, was booked around 11 a.m. on a first-degree arson charge, according to Gwinnett County jail records. In a news release, Gwinnett Fire spokesman Capt. Tommy Rutledge said fire investigators believe Jaramillo intentionally set fire to the master bedroom on the second floor of his home, located in the 200 block of Galesburg Drive. "Sufficient evidence was found that indicated Jaramillo started the fire, which caused moderate damage to the room of origin and sent smoke throughout the second floor," Rutledge said in the email. Brian Altus, the director of sales for Multivista, wanted to publicly thank all the people who saved him after he collapsed at work last year.
A Peachtree Corners businessman recognized Gwinnett County firefighters and his colleagues Thursday for saving his life last year. During Gwinnett Fire's monthly FireState meeting, Brian Altus, the director of sales for Multivista located in Peachtree Corners, recognized 12 people for coming to his rescue last October. Watch the video at the right of the full ceremony. While working in his office that day, Altus told a co-worker that he wasn't feeling well. Shortly after, he collapsed, and his co-workers found him unresponsive on the floor. Someone quickly called 911 and three other co-workers began CPR, rescue breathing and chest compressions. According to a news release from Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge, the incident started at 4:58 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10. Firefighters from Fire Station 1 were tending to a brush fire sparked by the downed line about 30 feet behind the business, located on the 5300 block of Old Norcross Road. One man was killed and a woman was reported in serious condition after Gwinnett Fire and Emergency Services and other agencies responded to a boating accident on Lake Lanier early Sunday. The apparent two-boat collision is believed to have occurred in the dark approximately 200 yards from the face of the dam back toward Lower Overlook Park inside Gwinnett County. The National Weather Center in Atlanta has issued a special weather alert warning of high fire danger for portions of northeast and east central Georgia, including Gwinnett County, due to low relative humidities. Relative humidities of 25 percent or less can be expected for four or more hours this afternoon with winds west to southwest at 5 to 10 mph. The Gwinnett County Department of Fire and Emergency Services held a ceremony Thursday morning in honor of Dale Simmons for his actions in helping an injured woman in a car accident. Simmons, from Hampton, Georgia, was on his UPS route delivering packages when he saw an accident occur on Highway 29 in Lawrenceville. A UPS service provider for over 20 years, Simmons wore his uniform as he received recognition for his actions on August 25. “I was coming up Highway 29 when I saw a dump truck hit a car and there was debris and smoke everywhere,” said Simmons. “I made sure the people in the truck were OK and then I checked on the lady in the car. “She was a little disoriented from hitting the airbag,” said Simmons.
