Fire Officials Urge Caution When Burning Leaves, Other Debris

County ordinance regulates how and when outdoor burning may take place.

Now that the outdoor burn ban has ended, fire officials are reminding citizens to follow regulations and exercise caution when burning leaves, branches or other debris. The outdoor burn ban for metro Atlanta ended on Sept. 30. However, certain days may still be designated no burn days due to weather and atmospheric conditions. Before doing any outdoor burning, check the Gwinnett Fire Community Risk Reduction (CRR)/Fire Marshal’s website or call the Burn Information Line at (678) 518-4979.  Information is updated daily by 9 a.m.       According to Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Service public information officer Capt. It's not hard to find a Top 10 list, but the recent Service Delivery Strategy court ruling for Gwinnett County provides some interesting material for one. A few tips to keep in mind to keep your outdoor barbecue from turning into a disaster.

It's not summer without grilling outdoors, but the hazards can be easy to overlook. According to the National Fire Prevention Association, firefighters respond each year to nearly 8,000 fires involving grills and barbecue pits. Those incidents result in nearly 120 injuries and $80 million in property damage annually. Gwinnett Authorities Probe Possible Drowning at Lake Lanier

A man was last seen wading in the water at about 6 p.m. Saturday, but crews were unable to locate victim. Search will resume Sunday.

Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services were working a possible drowning at Buford Dam from about 8 p.m. Saturday night. Attempts to locate the missing person were unsuccessful and the incident was turned over to the Department of Natural Resources to resume the search Sunday morning. According to Lt. Eric Eberly, spokesperson for GCFES, firefighters responded to a report of a missing swimmer in the water at Lake Lanier just after 8 p.m. Saturday night. A group of people reported a friend was last seen wading in the water at about 6 p.m. He reportedly could not swim and was not wearing a life jacket. “A quick search of the area by swift water personnel located what looked like a person’s body under the water out of reach from the crews…

Peachtree Corners Man Suspected of Setting Fire to his Home, Killing Dog

Man arrived at the scene of a fire "unclothed, bloody and soaked with water," according to the fire department.

Officials suspect a man of setting fire to his apartment and killing his own dog in what officials describe as a fire “a bizarre twist.” While investigators looked into the cause, the resident arrived at the apartment naked, bloody and soaking wet. At about 1:15 a.m. early this morning, the Gwinnett County Fire & Emergency Services were called to the scene of apartment fire at Park Lake apartments at 2011 Park Lake Lane in Peachtree Corners.  When they arrived at the ground floor unit, the fire, which had been contained to the kitchen, was already out.
