News Nearby: Buford Man Shot, Killed By Police

Officers also used a Taser on Rodney Pike, who had warrants out of Forsyth County. An officer was injured, but will be OK.

Gwinnett Police have identified the person who was shot dead Monday (May 13) in Buford in an officer-involved shooting as Rodney Pike, 38, of Buford. According to a police news release, Pike had warrants out of Forsyth County. The incident arose when police responded to a "wanted person located" call at 5307 Pass Court address in Buford about 3:39 p.m. Monday, police said. The caller also advised that Pike was a drug user and would run from police. According to the Gwinnett Police news release: Several officers arrived on scene at 3:58 PM.  Upon sight of the officers, Pike fled on foot and entered a parked vehicle a short distance away.  Pike refused to comply with the officers' verbal commands to stop.  Officers attempted to use a Taser …

Deadly force is used only when the individual can't escape. The gwinnett county police love the chance to shoot someone. The officer he was headed for should have gotten out of the way. He was wanted for probation violations, we have illegals driving and killing citizens and other real criminals out there they need to be capturing and shooting not some sorry thief that broke probation.   more ›

Gwinnett Police Arrest Man For Threatening Obama

The South Carolina man is arraigned in federal court in Atlanta. He also faces firearms charges.

A South Carolina man who was arrested in Gwinnett County on firearms charges also is charged with threatening the life of President Obama on Facebook. Patrick Randell McIntosh, 28, of Charleston, S.C., was arraigned in federal court Wednesday (February 27) in Atlanta for making "violent and disturbing threats online and via email, including a threat to the life of the President of the United States," according to a statement. According to federal authorities in Atlanta, McIntosh was indicted in January for illegally possessing three firearms and a large amount of ammunition while under indictment for a felony offense, and for threatening the president. Gwinnett Police to Increase Security at Schools

In response to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings in Newtown, CT, Gwinnett County Police announced Friday they will be stepping up patrols at schools in Peachtree Corners and throughout the county.

On Friday afternoon, Gwinnett County Police Department Cpl. Edwin Ritter released the following statement in response to the tragic school shooting in Newtown, CT: "In light of the horrific mass shooting at the elementary school in Connecticut, the Gwinnett County Police Department will be conducting increased police patrols in and around the schools within Gwinnett County. These increased patrols will a joint effort with the Gwinnett County School Police and Uniformed Officers with the Gwinnett County Police Department.
