GCPD's New Online Reporting System Reduces Costs

Implemented in the spring, officials estimate the new system has saved taxpayers over $32,000 thus far.

Gwinnett County Police Department’s online citizen police reporting system has resulted in substantial cost savings and has saved manpower hours as well, according to Gwinnett County Police Department officials. Gwinnett citizens have filed over 800 reports this year using the new system. Officials estimate the system has saved taxpayers approximately $32,160 so far. Cost savings are based on the time required for an officer to complete a report in person. Each in-person report requires at least an hour and a half of an officer’s time and costs roughly $40 per report, officials say. The majority of the reports filed online have been identity theft reports (355 reports). Citizens have also filed 122 theft reports, 80 entering auto reports…

With actions like this from our county government is it any wonder why folks in Peachtree Corners area want to incorporate as a city? Gwinnett Service Delivery Ruling: What Happens Next?

County is ordered to set up special service districts to fund some services. Police radar use remains unclear.

Now that the ruling in the long-running Service Delivery Strategy (SDS) legal dispute between Gwinnett County and many of its cities has been issued, the question is: What happens now? Also, when will the Gwinnett Police Department and several of the police departments in affected cities be able to use radar to track speeders again? The answers: The SDS ruling favors the cities in the Gwinnett Municipal Association on key matters. Barrett's order expressly said that the county has no authority to levy a tax or fee on residents of a city whose municipality does not accept and jointly fund an SDS service, such as police. The county now must set up by Nov. 1 Special Service Districts to handle funding for some services, such as transit, tax …
