Hostage Incident Likely Planned Say Police

The recent hostage-taking of Gwinnett firefighters ended with Lauren Holman Brown being shot dead by Gwinnett police.

The incident Wednesday in which a Suwanee man held five Gwinnett County firefighters hostage before being shot dead likely was planned, officials said Thursday. Lauren Holman Brown told his captives during the incident that he chose firefighters as hostages "because he knew (police) would come armed," Gwinnett Police chief Charles Walters said Thursday at a news conference at police headquarters in Lawrenceville. "That's an indication that he planned this." The incident began about 3:40 p.m. when Gwinnett Fire and Emergency officials received a call from 2440 Walnut Grove Way in unincorporated Suwanee. It ended shortly after 7:30 p.m. when police made the decision to enter the house because they felt Brown would not release the hostages …

Gwinnett SWAT Standoff: 'It Was a Typical Call'

Captor is dead, Gwinnett firefighters and a police officer are OK after the incident ends in gunfire off Taylor Road.

The emergency call to Gwinnett Fire and Emergency Services began Wednesday in Suwanee as a "typical call," according to spokesperson Tommy Rutledge. It ended about 7:30 p.m., some four hours later, with the caller dead after exchanging gunfire with a Gwinnett Police SWAT team. Five firefighters who were held captive were treated for superficial wounds at Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville. Police ID Wrong-Way Driver in Hwy. 316 Crash

Gerson Ambrocio Hernan, 22, of Stockbridge, died early Saturday after driving in the wrong direction on I-85 South and Highway 316 West in Lawrenceville, according to media reports.

  Gwinnett County Police have identified the wrong-way driver who crashed into a railing and died early Saturday after traveling in the wrong direction on I-85 South and Highway 316 West in Lawrenceville, according to media reports. The driver of the 1997 Honda Civic was Gerson Ambrocio Hernan, 22, of Stockbridge, as reported by the Gwinnett Daily Post. Speed and reckless driving appear to be factors in the crash, according to the article, and a pending blood test will determine if alcohol played a part in the collision. Weekend Traffic Fatality: Wrong-Way Driver Killed on Highway 316

The vehicle struck two guard rails and broke into two pieces, according to Gwinnett County Police.

Police are investigating a fatal car crash involving a wrong-way driver on Highway 316 in Gwinnett County. According to Sgt. Rich Long, at 2:00 a.m. on the morning of Saturday, March 30, a vehicle driving north bound in the south bound lanes of I-85 out of Dekalb County was called in to the Gwinnett 911 Center. Police attempted to intercept the vehicle but due to its speed and reckless driving, they were unsuccessful. The vehicle finally made its way onto GA 316 west bound. It was driving east bound against traffic. The vehicle eventually struck two guard rails and broke into several pieces. The driver, a male, died at the scene. "This investigation is still continuing," said Long. "The  identity of the driver has not been released."

Victim Identified in Train-Automobile Crash

Tuesday afternoon one man died, another remains in critical condition after an accident in Peachtree Corners involving two vehicles and a north-bound train.

The man who died in Tuesday's train-car collision in Gwinnett County has been identified. Lawrenceville resident Tony Lungaro, 51, died after being struck by a train around 4:55 p.m. March 12 near Buford Highway in Peachtree Corners, according to Gwinnett Police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith. Lungaro was the passenger in a white 2003 Ford 150 that was being driven by Lorenzo Wilkerson, 40, of Riverdale. They were traveling south on Buford Highway as a bronze 2003 Chevrolet Astrovan, driven by 25-year-old Lawrenceville resident Severin Gluschak, was traveling north on the same road. Police say Gluschak attempted to turn left onto Amwiler Road in Peachtree Corners, but the car failed to yield and turned in front of the Ford, causing a collision…

Carjacker Nabs Vehicle While Driver Rummages Through Trunk

A man driving in the Norcross area pulled over for only a moment to get something out of his trunk, but apparently it was enough time for someone to steal his $32,000 Mustang.

A man's car was reportedly carjacked in the Norcross area after he pulled over to get something from the back of his car. According to the Gwinnett County Police report, a 46-year-old man from Lithonia was traveling east on Graves Road past Osborne Drive in unincorporated Norcross around 7:30 p.m. one recent evening. With his car still running, the man pulled over to get some CDs out of his trunk. As he was rummaging through the trunk, someone suddenly jumped into the driver's seat and sped off toward South Norcross Tucker Road.
