Gomez's warrant charges include kidnapping and rape in the first case and burglary, rape, false imprisonment and robbery in the second case, according to the press release by Gwinnett spokesman Cpl. Eight Charged As a Result of Hot Air Balloon Theft Investigation

Multiple Gwinnett and Barrow cases closed as a result.

An investigation into the July 5 theft of a hot air balloon has led to the multiple arrests and the closure of several cases in Gwinnett and Barrow counties, police say. The stolen hot air balloon and trailer were recovered July 6 off Stanley Road in Dacula. The equipment, valued at $70,000, had been reported stolen from a home on Collins Hill Road. When police recovered the balloon and trailer, several pieces of equipment were missing. An anonymous tip led authorities to a home on Scott Circle in Dacula. Detectives searched the home and located parts of a lock believed to be part of the stolen trailer. Investigators also found small amounts of methamphetamine and marijuana. Detectives obtained warrants against the resident of the home, …

'Innocence in Peachtree Corners is Gone'

Numbers released by the FBI indicate a drop in crime across the country. But hard, cold crime numbers alone don’t always tell the entire story or reflect what’s happening to real people in areas like Peachtree Corners and Berkeley Lake.

The preliminary numbers from the FBI Uniform Crime Report for 2010 show a 5.5 percent drop in violent crime and a 2.8 percent drop in property crime across the nation between 2010 and 2009.  But if you happen to live in Peachtree Corners or Berkeley Lake, that might not mean much - particularly if you become a victim. Locally, the Gwinnett County Police Department’s 2010 crime numbers indicate a very slight increase in the sheer number of property crimes in unincorporated parts of the county, like Peachtree Corners.  There were 13,748 property crimes reported to GCPD in 2010 compared to 13,701 in 2009.  But considering the overall number of property crimes and the fact that the number of property crimes in this area has steadily declined …

Off Duty Gwinnett Police Officers Arrest Suspects

A driver possessing suspected heroin and a car-jacking suspect arrested in separate incidents.

Two off duty Gwinnett County Police officers were responsible for arrests of a driver possessing suspected heroin and a car-jacking suspect Thursday (July 14) evening in separate incidents in unincorporated Duluth. “These two incidents reflect heavily on why Gwinnett County police officers are issued take home vehicles,” said Cpl. Edwin Ritter. “Both of these two incidents lead to the arrests of two people charged with serious felonies. These arrests may not have happened when they did if it was not for the off duty officers and the take home car policy,” Ritter said.  Ritter reported Friday that an off duty Gwinnett police officer conducted a traffic stop on his way home in his patrol car after completing his shift about 11:21 p.m. …

The body of an adult white female was found on the ground just outside the vehicle. The Medical Examiner transported the bodies to do a thorough autopsy, however any injuries were not immediately apparent according to Smith.  The Ford truck was taken to police headquarters for a complete …
