High School Baseball Teams Play in Two-Day Event at Coolray

Ten high school teams, including Duluth High where a number of Peachtree Corners students attend, will compete on March 8-9, 2013.

Baseball begins for 2013 this week at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, as 10 high school teams from Gwinnett and Forsyth counties compete in a two-day, five-game event. On March 8-9, teams from South Gwinnett, Mountain View, Lanier, North Gwinnett, Providence Christian, Duluth, Collins Hill, Brookwood, North Forsyth and Peachtree Ridge will take to the diamond in the event's debut. “We’ve had singular events before, showcasing some top high school baseball teams in the area,” Gwinnett Braves General Manager North Johnson said in a news release.  “Through the efforts of the community and our staff, we have expanded to welcome the largest high school showcase in the history of Coolray Field. Blue Devils Baseball Player to Commit to KSU

Norcross High junior Griffin Helms will verbally commit to Kennesaw State University on Monday, Feb. 4.

Griffin Helms of the Norcross Blue Devils baseball team will verbally commit to Kennesaw State University on Monday, Feb. 4, according to NHS head coach Jonathan Wyman. The 5'10" 200-pound catcher is only a junior at Norcross High. He earned him varsity letter as a freshman scholar-athlete, according to the Norcross baseball website. "Continuing your playing career beyond high school is a dream for many that is achieved by very few, let alone a current junior in high school," said Wyman. "Please join the Norcross Baseball family in congratulating Griffin on this prestigious honor." Wyman explained that Kennesaw State is a Division I school that plays in the Atlantic Sun Conference, a college athletic conference operating in the Southeast. …

Wesleyan Wolves Baseball Team Defeats Pisgah 6-3

The Peachtree Corners private school is now 9-3 overall and undefeated in Region 5 A play.

In Saturday's game between Wesleyan and Mount Pisgah Christian, both teams had runners in scoring position throughout the game.  The difference was that the Wolves were able to drive in those runs and the Patriots were not. The outcome was a 6-3 win for Wesleyan.      Mount Pisgah got on the board first in the bottom of the first when Wesleyan starting pitcher Mason Colquitt walked the bases loaded and then walked Joseph Marco, scoring Jerome Morris.  However, Wesleyan scored two runs in the second and third innings.  Mount Pisgah tied the game in the bottom of the second. Then to start the top of the fourth, Gardner Heaner walked and advanced to second on a throwing error by Mount Pisgah starting pitcher Danny Schneider.  With a man on …
