Senior State Attorney to Lead Open Records Act Workshop

A community workshop on Georgia's Open Meeting & Records Act is scheduled for Feb. 19 in Norcross.

Assistant State Attorney Stefan Ritter on Tuesday, Feb. 19, will lead a seminar on how to use Georgia’s sunshine laws, which help the public monitor how government funds are spent and politicians conduct business. Ritter will appear at the community workshop “Gwinnett Gets Informed: Georgia’s Open Meetings & Records Act,” which will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Holy Martyrs of Vietnam Catholic Church, 4545 Timmers Way, Norcross.  The senior state attorney will discuss recent revisions to the Open Meetings & Records Act and explain how Georgia’s sunshine laws empower the public to hold politicians and public agencies accountable for their actions. “Open government laws are some of the best tools a citizen has to monitor its own …

UPDATE: Murphy Wins GCPS District III Race

The Republican incumbent easily overcomes challenger Falk.

Updated November 7 Incumbent Dr. Mary Kay Murphy easily defeated challenger Jen Falk in the race for the District III seat on the Gwinnett County school board. With all 35 precincts reporting (60,144 votes), Murphy, a Republican, had 60.73 percent of the votes to 39.27 percent for Falk. District III includes North Gwinnett, Peachtree Ridge, Duluth and Norcross high schools. Falk, a Democrat, is a Berkeley Lake resident. Murphy, a school board member since 1996, lives in Peachtree Corners. The results are from the Georgia Secretary of State website. -- Patch will have updates on the Gwinnett District III school board race.

This is unfortunate outcome and doesn't well for our future. It only proves to me that voters in the district did no further research than to look at the party affiliation on the ballot. Jen Falk received 40% of the vote in the heavily republican leaning district where Murphy has previously run unopposed. It Was Republicans Against Democratic Challengers at UPCCA Forum

The UPCCA-sponsored candidate forum drew a number of Peachtree Corners residents Monday who came to hear the incumbents and their challengers during a forum moderated by The Honorable Judge Warren Davis.

The United Peachtree Corners Civic Association (UPCCA) hosted a candidate forum Monday night drawing a number of voters to hear the incumbents and their challengers. U.S. Representative for the 7th Congressional District Rob Woodall, State Representative Tom Rice (Dist. 95) and Dr. Mary Kay Murphy, County School Board member for Dist. 3 met their challengers in a candidate forum held at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Peachtree Corners. Their Democratic challengers were Steve Reilly and Brooke Sisken, both Peachtree Corners residents, and Jen Falk from Berkeley Lake. GCPS Board Challenger Jen Falk's Contributions Exceed $6,000

Falk is seeking the District III seat, which includes schools in Peachtree Corners and Berkeley Lake.

Jen Falk, who is seeking election to the Gwinnett District III school board seat, has surpassed $6,000 in cash and in-kind campaign contributions, according to the latest data filed with state officials. Falk, a Berkeley Lake resident, lists several itemized cash contributions from Gwinnett and from Duluth, which has several schools in that district. Among the latest contributors: In-kind contributions are those made in such things as goods and services. Falk's cash contributions exceed $5,500. Falk, a founding board member of Ivy Prep charter school, is running as a Democrat. She is seeking the seat currently held by Dr. Mary Kay Murphy, a Republican. Murphy Raises More Funds in GCPS Re-Election Bid

The District III incumbent faces a challenge from Democrat Jen Falk in November.

Gwinnett school board member Dr. Mary Kay Murphy, whose district includes seven Peachtree Corners schools, has raised additional funds in her bid for re-election. In her latest campaign finance filing with state officials, Murphy lists cash contributions from former Gwinnett BOC Chairman Wayne Hill ($250), and the re-election campaign of state Sen.
