The National Weather Service advises Peachtree Corners and surrounding areas that there is a chance if strong storms and warns of possible flash floods.
April showers may bring May flowers, but the unpredictible spring weather can also bring strong thunderstorms, wind, hall and threat of flash flooding. The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for portions of north and central Georgia for Sunday night. Monday the NWS says to expect more 1.5 to 2.5 inches of rain on Monday. Attention, Peachtree Corners storm chasers and severe weather aficionados. Gwinnett County and the National Weather Service want you. The county and the National Weather Service are teaming to offer a free "storm spotter" class on Monday, March 4. The class will be at 7 p.m. at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center in Lawrenceville, according to a county newsletter. The class is free. The class will be taught by Barry Gooden, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for the metro area including Peachtree Corners. The forecast calls for periods of heavy rain Friday through Saturday with rainfall amounts as much as two inches. Weather forecast update: This morning the National Weather Service reports that Thursday will be mostly sunny with high temperature around 50 degrees. The original report called for a "wintry mix" to roll in around 3 p.m. The good news is it appears now we're in for another day of sunshine but Friday will be a different story. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the metro area including Peachtree Corners.
A stalled front across central Georgia is expected to bring widespread rain to the metro area according to the National Weather Service. The heavy, steady rain could cause flooding to areas with small streams, rivers and low lying areas to north Georgia. The NWS has issued a flood watch through tonight (Tuesday, Jan. 15). The rain is expected to diminish on Wednesday but is expected to increase again on Thursday which could cause additional flooding to the area. By Thursday night the rain is expected to end. Friday is expected to be sunny with a high near 53 degrees. Evening temperatures are predicted to dip to 31 degrees.

The National Weather Service has issued two weather warning for the metro area including Gwinnett County. The first is a wind advisory that remains in effect from now until 1 a.m. Tuesday in north and central Georgia. Expect winds from the northwest at 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. These winds are expected to diminish as the night wears on. A wind advisory means that sustained wind speeds of at least 20 mph or gusts to 35 mph or stronger are expected. The NWS is warning that winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Drivers are advised to use extra caution. The first frost advisory of this season has been issued for Friday morning and Peachtree Corners and Berkeley Lake are included in the report. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a frost advisory from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday for portions of West and North Georgia. Temperatures are expected to fall to between 33 – 36 degrees Fahrenheit after midnight. According to the advisory, this could impact prematurely budding plants, shrubs and trees. These plants will be susceptible to these cold temperatures and may suffer frost damage and could be killed if left unprotected. Precautionary preparedness action is recommended. The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for much of north and portions of central Georgia, including Gwinnett county, from late tonight through Tuesday morning. Widespread rain is expected with embedded thunderstorms likely to develop in the watch area. This is as a result of Tropical Storm Lee moving northeast from the Louisiana coast and interacting with a cold front moving southward from the Ohio-Tennessee Valley Region. This is expected to last through Labor Day and into Tuesday. Areas across far north Georgia could see rainfall amounting to 5 to 7 inches with 3 to 5 inches possible as far south as a line from LaGrange to Eatonton to Washington. Peachtree Corners and Berkeley Lake residents are encouraged to be aware and prepare for hurricane season, which starts June 1. National Hurricane Preparedness Week runs May 22 through May 28. The Atlantic Basin is expected to see an above-normal hurricane season this year, according to the seasonal outlook issued by NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center, a division of the National Weather Service.
