High school spring practice is already underway. Here's a look at the upcoming season's football schedules for Duluth, Norcross and Wesleyan.
Football season is just four months away, and here's another reminder. The 2013 football schedules are out for Peachtree Cornerrs schools, as well as others in the Georgia High School Association. So here's something you can print and stick on the refrigerator to be ready. Some key dates: Duluth plays against Norcross on Sept. 20 and Weslyan will play their rival, Greater Atlanta Christian on Oct. 25. Peachtree Corners Lady Wolves of Wesleyan, both boys and girls Norcross teams to play in state basketball championship game this weekend in Macon.
It's title time for high school basketball teams throughout the state. And that includes teams from Gwinnett County. On Friday, the Wesleyan girls and the Greater Atlanta Christian boys are in title games. On Saturday, Norcross goes for a "double." The boys take on Hillgrove for the AAAAAA title, and the girls face region rival North Gwinnett. And if you can't make it to Macon to see the action live, it'll be televised on Georgia Public Broadcasting and streamed live on GPB.org and playonsports.com. Six Norcross High football players committed to colleges on National Signing Day.

Six Norcross High football players signed letters of intent for different colleges on National Signing Day in front of a full auditorium. "We take pride in what we do on the field, we take pride in what we do off the field," said head coach Keith Maloof in a live broadcast shown on PlayOn! Sports. "These young men have done an outstanding job." The Blue Devils who signed Wednesday are: "I really wanted to thank my coaches and all of my linemen for being my friends over the years, and help me become the person I am today," said Ledford during his signing. Maxwell Ratings favor Blue Devils in Class AAAAAA.
If you listen to what a computer says about the Georgia High School Association football playoffs, then Gwinnett County teams should come away with two championships after the finals are played next week. See also: Citing the Maxwell Ratings, the Georgia High School Football Daily newsletter reports that Norcross (Class AAAAAA) and Buford (AAA) are the odds-on favorites to win titles in their respective classifications. The ratings project Norcross to beat Lovejoy in the AAAAAA final and Buford to beat St. Pius for the AAA championship. Predictions for Mill Creek-Norcross, Grayson-Shiloh, Parkview-Brookwood, South-Central, and eight other contests.
Well, there may be bigger games in this week, unless you ask fans of Grayson and Shiloh high schools. Our reader-decided Gwinnett Football Game of the Week, matches teams of completely opposite pedigrees — Grayson is the defending state champion, Shiloh hasn't had a winning season since 2003. But here they are, both 3-1 overall and 1-1 in Region 8-AAAAAA, with very real aspirations for reaching the playoffs. Let's be honest, however. A lot will have to happen for the Shiloh Generals to win, which would be about as big of a win as they've ever had.
