Police Nab Norcross Man Wanted on Rape, Sodomy Charges

Joseph Tyler Sivonda, a suspected serial rapist, was taken into custody Thursday after a week of police searching for him.

After a week of searching for him, Gwinnett County Police have apprehended a suspected serial rapist from the Norcross area. Joseph Tyler Sivonda, 23, was taken into custody Thursday morning (May 9), according to a news release from police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith. "A team of Gwinnett County Police Department detectives, U.S. Marshals, and deputies from the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Unit located Sivonda at an apartment in Duluth," continued Smith. He was staying with Tiffany Martin, 30, who also was arrested and charged with hindering the apprehension of a felon. Sivonda is currently in custody at the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond. Sivonda was wanted on two counts of armed robbery, two counts of aggravated …

Waffle House Robbery Suspects Fire At Police During Chase

Two men have been arrested for armed robbery, fleeing police in an incident Saturday at the Waffle House off Goshen Springs Road.

Two men have been arrested in connection to robbing a Waffle House in Norcross and firing shots at police officers during a car chase. According to Gwinnett County Police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith and jail records, Tamari Adams, 24, of Norcross, was arrested and charged with armed robbery, fleeing or eluding police, two counts of aggravated assault, and multiple traffic violations. Tavares Douglas Harris, 25, of Lithonia, was arrested and charged with armed robbery, providing a false name to an officer and two counts of aggravated assault. They remain in jail without bond. Police believe the caller's incident may be connected to another case that allegedly took place in the same room of a Norcross Guest Inn.

The Norcross Police Department is searching for an anonymous 911 caller alleging she was raped in 2012 because they believe the incident may be related to a similar case in Norcross. According to Sgt. Bill Grogan of Norcross Police, a man was arrested in early March on charges of rape and aggravated sodomy on a 21-year-old female he met at the Guest Inn in Norcross. Police have asked for the suspect's identity not to be released. The victim told police that a week before the incident, the two met at a bar in Atlanta, and they exchanged phone calls. Seventh Arrest Made in Death of Nick Jackson

Darrez Lamontz Chandler was arrested earlier this week for one count of murder and one count of burglary.

Another suspect has been arrested for the murder of Nick Jackson, the Norcross High freshman who was fatally shot in his home in February, according to a press release from Norcross Police Capt. Brian Harr. After further investigation, interviews and leads, Darrez Lamontz Chandler of Atlanta has been identified as an active participant of the incident. He was arrested Wednesday, April 18, and is the seventh person to be charged for the murder of Jackson. He is incarcerated in Gwinnett County Detention Center and has been charged with one count of murder and one count of burglary. Detectives Nab Rape Suspect Through DNA Match

Police able to link man to two incidents in unincorporated Norcross area .

  A 27-year-old man has been linked to two Norcross-area rape incidents, according to a press release from the Gwinnett County Police Department. Detectives were able to narrow down the suspect, Jerson Antonio Gomez, through a DNA "hit" on CODIS, the Combined DNA Index System. DNA samples from the two incidents were collected and submitted to the GBI Crime Lab, and they ended up matching Gomez's DNA. Gomez's warrant charges include kidnapping and rape in the first case and burglary, rape, false imprisonment and robbery in the second case, according to the press release by Gwinnett spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith. The suspect was already in custody at the Robert Deyton Federal Detention Facility in Lovejoy, Ga., and had been there since 2010. He …

  According to the Shreveport Times sourcing the Associated Press, the spa shooter in last Tuesday's murder-suicide was the same person acquitted of killing three men in 1989 in Louisiana. Jefferson Parish officials have confirmed with the newspaper that records indicate Jeong Soo Paek, the 59-year-old shooter who killed his two sisters and their husbands at Su Jung Health Sauna, was acquitted of the slayings in a New Orleans suburb. The Shreveport Times reported that Sang Pok Yi, 54, and his sons, 26-year-old Sang "Robert" Man Yi and 27-year-old Sung Tae Yi were fatally shot at a home in the suburb of Metairie.   Updated 2:20 p.m., Wednesday Five people were killed in what Norcross Police have confirmed as a domestic-related shooting at a Buford Highway spa Tuesday night. Norcross Police Spokesman Capt. Brian Harr said in a press release at 1:49 p.m. Wednesday that the suspect shot his two sisters and their husbands around 8:40 p.m. inside Su Jung Health Sauna, located at 6005 Buford Highway. The shooter then shot himself. Four of the family members were found dead inside when police responded. One victim died later at a local hospital. Police have not yet released the names of the deceased. Norcross Police said four people were found dead inside the Su Jung Health Sauna, located at 6005 Buford Highway. One victim died later at a local hospital. Norcross Police Spokesman Capt.
