Norcross High graduate Charles Tumulak became paralyzed from the neck down after being injured in an obstacle course run in South Carolina. He arrives at Atlanta's Shepherd Center this week, where he will receive further treatment.
Family and friends will welcome a Lilburn man back to the area this week, as he begins the next phase of recovery following a traumatic injury more than two weeks ago. Charles Tumulak, 46, was competing in an obstacle course run on March 23 in South Carolina when he lost his balance on a cargo net climb and fell 15 feet -- head first -- on the ground below. Now, the avid runner is paralyzed from the neck down. Since that fall, Tumulak has been at the McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, S.C., receiving treatment. This week, he is expected to arrive at the Shepherd Center here in Atlanta, where a team of doctors specialized in spinal cord injuries will work with him. Norcross High is hosting a Wild West Carnival and Movie Night this Friday to benefit Norcross Relay for Life. The event, which is open to students and their families, will be filled with carnival games, food and music. Attendees will have access to booths with games and activities including a moonbounce, an obstacle course, face painting and a dunk tank. Once nightfall hits, guests will have the chance to watch the Wild West movie "Rango" on the school's practice field. Lawn chairs and blankets are welcome, and while no coolers are allowed, food trucks will be available. Movie tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door. Security footage shows a student entering and leaving a teacher's classroom shortly before she realized her keys, phone and $28 in cash were missing.
Updated: March 26, 2013, 8:30 p.m. Police say that the suspect, 16, was arrested Tuesday after admitting to stealing the car to administrators, according to Norcross Police Sgt. Bill Grogan. "He was apprehended at about noon today by our officers after obstructing the officers' initial attempts at a peaceful arrest at his home in the Hunter's Ridge apartment complex," said Grogan. The residence is on the access road off Peachtree Industrial Boulevard and Jimmy Carter Boulevard outside city limits. He also is being looked at by Gwinnett County Police for several other major theft crimes in the area. The accident occurred on Spalding Drive after school Thursday, one student reported his neck hurting.
Two school buses were involved in an accident Thursday afternoon at Norcross High School. The wreck occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Spalding Dr. near the school, according to Gwinnett County Public Schools spokesperson Jorge Quintana. No serious injuries were reported, but one student did report his neck hurting. He was evaluated by paramedics and not transported. The Norcross High School Foundation of Excellence held its annual Winter Celebration gathering to highlight this year's successes and its future plans for the high school.
The Norcross High School Foundation of Excellence gathered for its Winter Celebration of Excellence on Wednesday at the Neely Farm clubhouse in Peachtree Corners. The event was open to the community. The gathering included the foundation's board members, school teachers, coaches, a former and the present school principal and parents who have children attending the high school. "We come here to celebrate Norcross High School," said Chris Saunders, this year's foundation president. The Foundation, which was founded in 2001, was created by forwarding thinking parents and supporters who wanted to find ways to provides funds each year to enhance the school's academic and athletic programs. Blue Devils beat the Hawks to win the Georgia High School Association boys Class 6A basketball championship.

Perhaps not, after seeing what happened Saturday night in the Georgia High School Association basketball finals at the Macon Centreplex. Norcross completed an amazing sweep after the Blue Devils beat Hillgrove 60-48 to win the Class AAAAAA boys basketball championship. The Norcross boys basketball team won 59-54 in a Saturday night thriller in AAAAAA high school action.
The Norcross boys basketball team defeated North Cobb in an exciting game that went down to final minutes of the game. The Blue Devils held just a 2-point lead at half time and kept it throughout the remainder of the game according to an online AJC report. The win sets up the Blue Devils to the state finals next week to be played in Macon.

The Norcross girls beat the Fairburn school 62-16 in the Class AAAAAA basketball game Saturday.
The Lady Blue Devils defeated Langston Hughes 62-16 in the state semifinals Saturday at Georgia Tech, according to GHSA. The Norcross High girls now are headed to the state finals, which will be held at 7 p.m. March 9 at the Macon Coliseum. They will compete against North Gwinnett for the Class AAAAAA title.
