Spring has sprung at the Robert Fowler Family YMCA in Peachtree Corners, it's time to get in the dirt.
Gardening can be rewarding - and it can also be an ideal time to teach that there's more to learn than just watching seeds sprout. "The garden really brings healthy eating to life." The learning garden provides members ages 3 to 15 who participate in YMCA's free kids fitness clubs with opportunities to work cooperatively with each other and adult volunteers to grow, nurture and enjoy fresh vegetables, make healthier food …

Local resident, gardening guru, writer and sustainability advocate has been hired to relaunch Farmer D Organics store located at the corner of Spalding Drive and Holcomb Bridge Road.
Daron "Farmer D" Joffe, founder and CEO of Farmer D Organics, recently announced that he has hired Pattie Baker, a metro-Atlanta-based sustainability advocate, writer, and gardener as Global Gardening Ambassador. As such, she will relaunch the Farmer D Organics store at the gateway into Peachtree Corners (next to the Avril’s Car Wash at the corner of Spalding and Holcomb Bridge) as a potential national franchise model, extend social media outreach for the Farmer D Organics brand and increase the impact of the company's website. Baker met Farmer D some 11 years ago on a chance encounter that she says changed her life. She went on to participate in CSAs (community-supported agriculture weekly farm box deliveries); help start home, faith-…

She stocked up on staples like Cheerios, peanut butter, and bottled water. In addition, …

The Peachtree Corners CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) spring season starts soon.
Three years ago, almost to the day, I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer; less than a week later, I underwent surgery to remove two malignant tumors in my throat in addition to my entire thyroid and surrounding lymph nodes. Two rounds of radiation and daily meds followed. This unwelcomed news came as quite a surprise to me, as I had no real symptoms and I was not feeling sick. Yet, there “it” was - the dreaded “C” word unexpectedly knocked on my door and invited its wretched self into my life. Coincidentally, that same week, I received an unexpected e-mail from a local friend, Darlene Penner, announcing the prospect of a community supported agriculture group (or CSA for short) in Peachtree Corners. The largest certified organic…

I have had the pleasure of working with Pattie Baker at the Garden of 'Eatin' at Saint Patrick's Episcopal Church and the Dunwoody Community Garden. No doubt that Farmer D's has joined forces with an individual who exudes a passion that is filled with sustainable goodness for the community and those in need. Congratulations to both Farmer D and Pattie as they move forward in Peachtree Corners. …   more ›
