Planning Commission Meeting Draws Large Crowd

Over 50 attended Tuesday night, many were nearby residents concerned over the proposed Crowell Brothers Funeral Home crematory.

It was a full house at Tuesday night's monthly Planning Commission meeting with the majority of the 50+ seats filled at City Hall. Three of the five Planning Commissioners were present, Matt Houser, Mark Middleton and Alan Kaplan. The majority came in response to Crowell Brothers Funeral Home's request for a special use permit to add a crematory to its premises. The family-owned funeral home has been in operation since 1985. Jeff Crowell, one of the owners, said nearly 35 percent of his business in 2012 was for cremation services. He said in the first quarter of this year 50 percent of the funerals have been cremation services. "We're asking to add this service to serve the families," said Crowell who added that it was extremely stressful …

Planning Commission to Hear Three Requests Tuesday

The Peachtree Corners commission's agenda includes a special use permit to allow a funeral home to add a crematory and two additional requests.

The City of Peachtree Corners Planning Commission will meet at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at City Hall for its regularly scheduled monthly meeting. On the agenda is three new business items: 1. A request for a special use permit by Crowell Brothers Funeral Home to allow for a crematory at it's location on 5051 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. 2. Chase Bank has plans to build a branch on the corner of Peachtree Parkway and Peachtree Corners Circle (across from Dreamland) is requesting that the requirement  for 24 foot-wide drive-thru lanes be removed. 3. Veterinary Clinic Voted Down at Planning Commission Meeting

The Peachtree Corners commission recommended against changing zoning on the two-story office building to permit an animal hospital.

On Tuesday night the Peachtree Corners Planning Commission voted against allowing a veterinary clinic to open in the first floor of a two-story office building. Alberto Bazan, who lives nearby in the Wellington subdivision, had planned to buy the building and convert the first floor of the Parkway Office Suites to a veterinary clinic that his sister, a veterinarian, would operate. "We feel there is a need for it," said Dick Carothers, Bazan's attorney. He pointed out that the Bazan family were long time Peachtree Corners residents and that their plan for a veterinary clinic would benefit the community. Really Alberto?....It appears to me that you are intent on buying the building whether or not the Veterinary Clinic proposal is indeed approved. It has further come to my attention that you plan on forcing the tenants to vacate their offices shortly upon sale even with no Vet Clinic just to exercise your control over the property. Citizens Play Critical Role In City's Plans for Future

Tuesday the Planning Commission heard from Pond & Co. on importance of getting public to participate in Comprehensive Plan and also made its recommendation on Newell Recycling's bid for change in zoning conditions and special use permits.

Where will the city of Peachtree Corners be in 2033? That's going to be determined in large part by the residents of Gwinnett County's newest city. Two representatives from Pond & Company, the engineering firm hired to help the city develop a Comprehensive Plan, presented information to the Planning Commission at Tuesday night's meeting. "Public participation is an essential element," explained Pond & Company's Joel Reed. The ultimate outcome is to ensure the final plan reflects what the community wants to see for the city said Reed. Planning Commission to Hear Rezoning Request

Acreage on Peachtree Parkway may be rezoned. And a property owner wants a Special Use Permit to allow for a truck fleet maintenance facility.

The Peachtree Corners Planning Commission will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 at 7 p.m. at City Hall. On the agenda are two items: 1. Peachtree Parkway Holdings, LLC, owner of 4.32 acres on Peachtree Parkway and Medlock Bridge Road, is requesting that the property be rezoned to allow for the construction of restaurants, office and retail buildings. Wesleyan School Seeking to Expand its Sports Facilities

The private Peachtree Corners school has requested special permits on residential properties it currently owns in the Spalding Estates subdivision.

Wesleyan School, located on 53 acres fronting S.R. 141 and Spalding Drive, is seeking to expand its sports facilities to nearby residential parcels located adjacent to the campus. The residential properties are currently part of the Spalding Estates subdivision located across from the Norcross High School on Spalding Drive. The properties are currently zoned R-100 and combined equal over six acres. Three lots abut the school's current soccer fields and are located in the interior of the subdivision, the remaining two lots are adjacent to the school's existing tennis courts near the intersection of Spalding Drive and Spalding Terrace. Planning Commission Approves Noble Village Elevation Plans

Peachtree Corners board gave its nod of approval Tuesday night despite several homeowners who raised questions about the height of one of the buildings.

It was another 'first' for Gwinnett County's newest city. The newly formed Planning Commission met for the first time Tuesday evening at Fowler YMCA to hear and decide whether to recommend the architect's plans for the senior living center currently being developed on Spalding Drive. The plans to build Noble Village at Spalding on the property that once belonged to Faith Life Church had long been in the works, preliminary plans and landscaping plans had been approved by the Gwinnett County Commission. With the incorporation of Peachtree Corners on July 1, further decisions and recommendations will fall to the city's Planning Commission. City's Citizen Boards Sworn In Tuesday

The Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals members for the City of Peachtree Corners are now in place.

Tuesday evening the City of Peachtree Corners made another big leap along the path of getting itself fully operational as Gwinnett County's newest city. "This is an historic event," said Acting City Clerk Joan Jones as she prepared to swear in the nine citizens who make up the Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals. The 10th member, Wayne Knox, was not able to attend. The meeting was held at the Fowler YMCA. For the 10 new members chosen to fill the volunteer posts it was a two and a half week journey filled with resumes, questionnaires and interviews. Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals Members to be Sworn In

The 10 Peachtree Corners men and women who have been selected to serve on the new board are slated to be sworn in Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 7:00 p.m.

Reminder: There will be a Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals Training Session and Organization Meeting, Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 7:00 p.m. at the Fowler YMCA. The training session includes: A session for the 10 men and women who will serve on the two five-member boards which will include roles and responsibilities of the two boards, orientation to zoning, review of by-laws and other items.
