Three Dollar Cafe Opens in Peachtree Corners

The popular eatery, with a number of locations in the metro area, has just opened its doors in Gwinnett County's newest city.

If you've been in the metro area for awhile, you're bound to be familiar with the Three Dollar Cafe restaurants. Established in 1983, the locally owned and operated business has locations in Dunwoody, Alpharetta, Lawrenceville and Marietta to name a few. And owner Won Woo decided Peachtree Corners was the ideal place to add his ninth restaurant. Three Dollar Cafe's newest restaurant opened Feb. 2 and is located in the Dick's Sporting Goods shopping center on S.R. 141 near the Holcomb Bridge Road intersection. The revamped shopping center has attracted several restaurants including Corner Bakery and Cheeseburger Bobby's. But unlike the others, Three Dollar Cafe features a full bar, 13 big screened TVs and a menu that not only includes its …

Burned Out Dreamland Building Demolished

The company-owned store will be rebuilt with a reopening date planned for the end of May.

Our thanks to Sheri Snyder, owner of Objet d'Art Gallery and Studios who captured the action as bulldozers razed the burned out Dreamland Bar-B-Que restaurant on Friday, Feb. 22. The popular eatery, located on Peachtree Parkway across from The Forum, caught fire shortly after 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013. Fortunately there were no injuries but the fire destroyed the building. In an email Snyder told Patch that the manager from Dreamland had stopped by her art gallery and she asked him what was happening to the rebuilding of the restaurant. "He said 'they would be taking it down to the slab, but would keep the pit as it was salvageable,'" she said. The manager told Snyder that the company's goal was to have the new restaurant open by …

Dreamland BBQ Fire Accidental Says Investigator

The popular Peachtree Corners barbeque restaurant's owners says they'll be back in operation in a few months.

The fire that heavily damaged Dreamland BBQ in Peachtree Corners on Wednesday, Jan. 16, was accidental according to Gwinnett County fire investigators. "The fire was determined to be caused by a neon sign transformer located in the attic space," said Lt. Colin Rhoden, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Fire Department. Rhoden said the sign was not being used by Dreamland but had been left there by the previous tenants. "It caused an electrical arcing condition in the attic which resulted in the ignition," explained Rhoden. Because the cause of the fire was deemed accidental, there will be no further investigation he said. "The building is a total loss," said Rhoden. The burning roof collapsed into the restaurant "causing substantial damage …

If a plugged-in transformer is something that is flat-out wrong, then is it something that can be overlooked during an inspection? Lastly, were there in fact, inspections over these years?   more ›
