Cole Hanna was recognized at the Peachtree Corners Rotary Club on Monday.
Cole Hanna, a 7th grader at Pinckneyville Middle School, was pronounced the Student of the Week at the weekly Peachtree Corners Rotary Club on Monday at the club's luncheon meeting on Monday. The Rotary Club's proclamation was read by Rotarian Robert Mann, it stated: WHEREAS Pinckneyville Middle School student Cole Hanna has been nominated by his teachers as being an outstanding student; the kind of student everyone loves because he enjoys learning. He is kind and respectful of his peers and teachers. The first grader in Mrs. Dausch's class received the Peachtree Corners Rotary Club of the Week award.
Simpson Elementary is proud to recognize Derek Mai from Mrs. Dausch’s first grade class as our Peachtree Corners Rotary Club Student of the Week. At this week's Rotary luncheon Derek was recognized by his teacher with a framed proclamation that read: Derek has attended Simpson Elementary since kindergarten, and we are very proud of the exceptional learner and leader he has become in such a short amount of time. The YMCA is always a dynamic and active place where everyone is welcome and everyone is family. Last week the Peachtree Corners Rotary Club was honored to have Bill McCargo as its speaker, the Student of the Month program has resumed, and members of the Norcross High School Interact Club attended. Weekly Speaker: Bill McCargo Mr. McCargo recently retired from the position of President of the Atlanta Education Fund, were he lead the efforts to reform the Atlanta Public School System. His group performed the initial investigation into the cheating scandal of the Standardized Advancement Test and then turned the result over to Governor’s Office of Student Accountability. The Governor’s Office has the authority to use subpoena and law enforcement powers to get people to tell the truth and cooperate with the investigation. In McCargo’…

Last Monday was an exciting Rotary meeting. Three events made the meeting memorable, inducting two new members having the meeting at GACS (Greater Atlanta Christian School), and a visit from the District Governor and Assistant Governor. The Peachtree Corners Rotary Club was pleased to receive the District 6910 Governor William (Bill) St.Clair and his Assistant Governor for Area XII Otis P. Jones. At the beginning of each Rotarian year the District Governor visit each of the over 70 local clubs in district 6910. The DG and AG attended a board meeting prior to the lunch meeting in which he delivered an inspiring speech about the direction of Rotary and its many worldwide and local projects. Fred Carroll and Judy Putnam were sworn in with the Rotary Club's The induction ceremony was conducted by Otis Jones, Rotary Club's Assistant Governor. Peachtree Corners Rotary Club, founded in 1981 and part of Rotary Club International, is made up of a group of international business community leaders and is among 32,000 clubs located in over 200 countries. The club meets each Monday at 12 p.m. in the Carlyle House in downtown Norcross. At the weekly meetings local business and community leaders are invited to speak during the luncheon. Fred H. Mike Sweigart, a member of the Peachtree Corners Rotary Club, recently sat down with us to talk about his new duties.
Long time Peachtree Corners Rotarian Mike Sweigart took over the reigns of Gwinnett County's Chief Deputy Tax Commissioner just a little over a month ago and is quickly settling into his new position overseeing the day to day operations of the Tax Commissioner's Office. Sweigart was tapped for the position in May and took over for Richard Steele who moved into the Tax Commissioner's position when long-time Commissioner Katherine Meyer retired in the spring. It was Meyer who referred him for the job, and one the former commercial real estate broker was quick to accept. Part of Rotary International, local club receives visitors from around the globe.
Rotary International is the world's first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide and has a club located right here in Peachtree Corners. Members are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto Service Above Self.
