Focus Vision, owned and operated by Dr. Anh Ho opened last week.
A new privately owned and operated eye care facility has just opened its doors in Peachtree Corners. Focus Vision, located in the Dick's Sporting Goods shopping center on S.R. 141, next door to Cici's Pizza has just opened. It's owned and operated by Dr. Anh Ho. Patch had the chance to speak with Dr. Ho and tour her new facility just two days before she officially opened for business. What you'll find inside the nicely appointed showroom is over 1,000 eye glass frames in a wide price range. And you'll also be able to have a full eye exam and complete eye care at Focus Vision. "We specialize in primary eye care, pediatric and geriatric eye care, contact lens fitting and can treat ocular diseases," said. Dr. Ho. If you're selective about …

Her love of fresh produce lead Genna Bowman to venture out and begin her own business delivering farm-picked food to Peachtree Corners.
Genna Bowman likes to know where her fruits and vegetables come from. Sifting through the choices in the local Peachtree Corners grocery stores she didn't like what she saw. Food shipped in from far away states and even other countries. Bowman, an admitted "veggie lover," thought there had to be fresh fruit and vegetables that were grown nearby that were available. She began looking for surrounding Georgia farms for organically grown produce. You could say a seed was planted as she searched for fresh produce to serve to her family. That search grew into a new business venture she calls Farmers Delivery. The business is a farmers market on wheels of sorts. Bowman reasoned that most everyone, given the choice, would prefer fresh produce, but…

Georgians are part of a national movement to keep holiday cash at home.
“Look, Charlie, let's face it. We all know that Christmas is a big commercial racket. It's run by a big eastern syndicate, you know.” – Lucy van Pelt to Charlie Brown in “A Charlie Brown Christmas” Americans have worried about losing the true meaning of Christmas since at least 1965, when Charlie Brown lamented the holiday’s commercialization in a Peanuts special. This year, there’s a movement afoot to bring Christmas closer to home. An apparently anonymous essay circulating on the Web has drawn the attention of people in Georgia. It calls for buying local services as gifts instead of products manufactured in foreign countries: You see, Christmas is no longer about draining American pockets so that China can build another glittering city…

With Small Business Saturday coming this weekend, you can help drive feet — and wallets — to your favorite independent business.
You might be the type who finds sleeping on a freezing sidewalk for the best Black Friday deals exciting. Or perhaps you've already started working out your mouse-clicking finger for Cyber Monday. But if neither scenario appeals to you, there is an alternative — Small Business Saturday. Small Business Saturday, conceived by American Express to help spotlight the efforts of local small businesses, comes at the beginning of the big holiday shopping sprint — this Saturday — and encourages shoppers not to bypass Main Street for the mega-mall. Peachtree Corners Patch would love to hear which small businesses you can't live without in Peachtree Corners. Tell us in the comments which independently owned business is a must for shoppers this …

The soft-spoken Peachtree Corners man spends his days working as a candy maker, then in the evenings turns his artistic talents to crafting ghoulish masks.
One might consider him a modern day Jekyll and Hyde. During the daylight hours you'll find him behind the counter at a local chocolate specialty store making candy - but by night he crafts ghoulish face masks that would scare even the hardiest of souls. Wes Podoll, 36, is the man behind the mask. He works as a confectioner full time at the Peterbrook Chocolatier store at The Forum, but his true passion is crafting monster images that would send most small children screaming for their mothers. So just how did he come by this creative art form. Podoll, who holds a Bachelor or Arts degree from the former Atlanta College of Art (now SCAD), has had a fascination with the macalb since a young teen. "When I was 14, a friend showed me an issue of …

Rachelle Kuramoto, Peachtree Corners entrepreneur, wife, mother, and creator of kigo footwear, describes the design concept and offers advice on balancing business and family life.
What started as a simple discussion during a road trip turned into a brainstorming session, and several years later, blossomed into a growing family business. Rachelle Kuramoto, local entrepreneur, wife and mother of two, explains, “My mother-in-law (and now business partner as well) lives part time in Chicago, part time in Colorado. When in Chicago, she uses public transportation every day, and in Colorado, she skies in the winter. She had an idea for a lightweight yet durable and protective shoe that could fold up and stow in a coat pocket or small bag in order to make commuting or getting to and from activities (like skiing) more comfortable.” Seeing potential in the product and brand, the two women began working on the concept in …

New Peachtree Corners store offers supplies and advice on how to be ready for the unexpected.
We all know what it's like to suddenly get cut off from our daily routine, January's record snowfall practically shut our town down. Schools were closed, banks couldn't open their doors, mail delivery stopped, some of us lost electric power -- and more importantly our neighborhood grocery stores were closed. None of us could imagine that it would be nearly a week before our routines would return to normal. So just what can be done to prepare for the unknown? American Preparedness Center (APC), which opened just recently on Peachtree Parkway has equipment, long-term food storage and much more to sustain you and your familiy to survive comfortably. "People aren't prepared for the 9/11s, the Katrinas," said Chris Allen, who is a co-owner of …

Baba's Gyro & Kabob opened just three months ago but is already a hit with the lunch bunch.
I love finding new restaurants and a sure-fire way to find out if it's a good place to eat -- other than a recommendation from a friend -- is if it's packed at lunch time. It seems like the office lunch crowd is always able to sniff out the best spots, and Baba's Gyro & Kabob is no exception. Located on S.R. 141 and Peachtree Corners Circle in the Village at Peachtree Corners shopping center, the new restaurant joins a couple of other popular dining spots, Dreamland Bar-B-Que and Flying Biscuit Cafe. The addition of Baba's makes this little shopping center a hot spot for the lunch and dinner crowd. Baba's serves up authentic Greek and Mediterranean cuisine, the wait staff is friendly and helpful if you're not sure what to order or would …

Even in a down economy, Dan Meehan is a great example of a promising career transition.
Ten years ago, Dan Meehan was among the countless number of Americans riding an economic roller coaster. Stock market instability and high unemployment created great uncertainty. Jobs were drying up as many found themselves newly out of work. Meehan had spent more than 30 years with technology companies large and small, mostly in sales positions. He then worked for years as a recruiter, finding sales professionals for Atlanta tech firms. “It took two to three years before that market came back to even be able to really make any living at all,” Meehan said of the 2001 situation. Fast forward to 2008, and Meehan was again witnessing an all-too-familiar scene. A stock market crash and joblessness were once again the dominant economic …
