Trader Joe's Hikes Price of 'Two Buck Chuck'

Back-to-back years of bad crops raised production costs for the Trader Joe's standby, named for a former Napa Valley vintner who left the wine business years ago.

After an 11-year run as perhaps the most drinkable cheap wine around, "Two Buck Chuck" fell victim to inflation this month. The iconic Trader Joe's shiraz and cabernet sauvignon wines are retailing for $2.49 in California stores, up 50 cents from the $1.99 price tag that made the wines famous. In Georgia stores, including Peachtree Corners, the price is $2.79. (Prices vary by state due to taxes and shipment fees.) Jokes abound, renaming the Charles Shaw line as "Inflation Chuck" and "Upchuck" (referencing the price, not the quality of the wine). The winemaker, Bronco Wine Co., said poor grape crops affected costs. The company owns about 45,000 acres of vineyards, which had stablized grape production to some extent, the Santa Rosa Press …

Trader Joe's Recalling Three Products For Salmonella Investigation

The California-based boutique grocery story chain, which has a store in Peachtree Corners, has announced it is recalling two of its peanut butter products and one almond butter.

Trader Joe's has pulled three products from the shelves after a Food and Drug Administration investigation linked it to food-borne illness in 18 states. The recall involves products manufactured between May 1, 2012 and Sept. 24, 2012. If you have purchased one or more of these products, do not consume, return to the supermarket for a full refund. Trader Joe’s Recalls Salsa, Balela

Trader Joe's, based in Atlanta, announced a recall of salsa and balela sold under its brand in six states, including Georgia, because of the possibility of listeria contamination.

Although no illnesses have been reported, Trader Joe’s is recalling salsa and balela sold in stores in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and southern Virginia. The recall was prompted by an announcement by Simmering Soup that Listeria monocytogenes was found at one of its plants. Diced onions from that plant were included in the products that Trader Joe’s recalled. On its website, Trader Joe’s announced that the following products have been recalled: These products were only sold in the six southern states noted and Trader Joe’s recalled the products as a precautionary measure. Listeria was not found in the diced onions, just in the plant that processed them. Any of these products can be returned for a full refund.

Readers Pick Favorite Flower Shop

Trader Joe's, though not a floral shop, won this week's poll.

Our Readers' Choice question this week was to ask you to name your favorite Peachtree Corners florist. Trader Joe's, while not a floral shop, was the hands down favorite garnering over 50 percent of the votes and is this week's Readers Choice winner. The boutique grocery store, located at The Forum, sells a variety of foods including gluten-free, vegan, organ and kosher products. Many products sold at the California-based store are sold under Trader Joe's own label. And according to our Patch readers, it's their favorite place to buy fresh flowers. Peachtree Corners no longer has a pure floral shop, the last floral shop in the city closed some months ago, so we expanded our quest to find the best place to buy fresh flowers to include …
