Young female dog has been spayed, micro-chipped, up to date on her shots and ready for adoption through the Angels Among Us Pet Rescue group.
Meet Tiana, a female Collie-mix, who is approximately seven (7) months old and weighs 25 pounds. She has been spayed, micro-chipped, up to date on all her shots and vetting. Tiana is also crate-trained and sleeps in her crate all night with no problems or potty accidents and is almost completely house trained. She still has an occasional accident but is about 80 percent trained. She would do well with a family who is home and can take her outside often enough to reinforce her potty training. This young pup loves children, is good with other dogs, is "interested" in cats but shows no aggression towards them. Her foster says the only "problem" she has is being excited when meeting people and wanting to jump up, in true excited puppy fashion…

Those who give of themselves also receive. Discover the healthy benefits of helping others.
There are many reasons to volunteer at Peachtree Corners' Robert Fowler Family YMCA, like giving back to the community or helping a child learn to read, or catch a ball. There is another reason to volunteer, that you may not have considered: volunteering is good for your health. The report shows that "volunteers have greater longevity, higher functional ability, lower rates of depression and less incidence of heart disease." At the Y we see this everyday, people who give back to others lead happier and healthier lives than those who do not volunteer. Y volunteers come from all walks of life but they …

There are a lot of cutbacks going on in Gwinnett County government these days, but one thing that is still on the table: food for senior citizens. A county agency and the Outback Steakhouse in Suwanee again teamed up this week on a program that brings in funds to pay for meals for seniors. The restaurant's manager and crew, many on their day off, came in Wednesday and helped prepare over 400 meals that were delivered later that day to various businesses in Gwinnett. The funds from those lunches were to go toward Friends of Gwinnett County Senior Services, a non-profit that financially aids core programs for Gwinnett Senior Services. This is the 12th straight year that Outback has donated food and labor for the program; it has generated …

Area Girl Scouts donate nearly 60,000 boxes of cookies to the American Red Cross
The Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta swarmed Berger Allied Distribution Center in Lawrenceville Saturday to load up nearly 60,000 boxes of cookies to give to the American Red Cross. The donation is part of the Girl Scout council’s community service, Gift of Caring, commitment. More than 50 Girl Scouts, representing areas within 34 counties, helped put Red Cross stickers on the cases of cookies and help load them into delivery trucks. Laurie Kimbrell, community relations officer for American Red Cross Metro-Atlanta Chapter, said the treats will be distributed throughout the state. “We’re really excited because the cookies will put a smile on our clients face." All of the favorites, including Samoas® and Tagalongs®, will be given to families …

The United Way has distributed 5,000 vouchers for families in need to get six pounds of protein each.
It is literally a truckload of chicken—and it is all going to families in need. A refrigerated Tyson semi truck pulled into a Norcross facility Friday morning with 29,000 pounds of boneless chicken. The two-pound bags, worth about $75,000, will soon be divided up and distributed to Gwinnett families in need. “We are proud to donate this truckload of products,” said Scott Jacobson, Regional Sales Director for Tyson. He said that while his company’s efforts don’t come anywhere close to meeting local needs, he’s happy to know that thousands of families will benefit. “Protein is crucial,” he said, adding that often people in need don’t get access to healthy protein through donation. Demetrius Jordan, an area director for the United Way, also …
