Does It Take Too Long to Vote?
Have we all come to expect that the concept of fast-food lines should be applied to the voting process as well?
Much has been written about the long lines some voters experienced during Tuesday's elections. Times varied from an hour and a half to 20 minutes at various polling stations in Gwinnett. Some are calling for the process to be streamlined so voters can get in and out faster - kind of like the fast food lines where a stream of assembly line workers get our orders filled, money collected so we can move on. But voting is not on the same level as ordering a hamburger and deciding or fries or onion rings. On Tuesday we were choosing the leaders of our country and state for the next four years. I had no problem waiting in line for 90 minutes at Berkeley Lake Elem. on Tues morning. A poll worker was shuttling clip boards down the line so we all had our paperwork ready and instructing everyone to have their ID out (just like the Airport). HOWEVER, once inside, only one person was checking those IDs. 2 machines w/ scanners & 3 workers, but only 1 actually checking the ID with the paperwork… more ›
