A Snellville woman has been arrested for setting her apartment on fire on Wednesday. The fire was called in at 5:52 a.m. Wednesday in the 2800 block of Spruce Circle. Crews were met with smoke and flames that were contained to one room on the second floor. The fire was extinguished and no injuries were reported, according to Gwinnett County Fire Public Information Officer Tommy Rutledge. Significant smoke was present throughout the second floor. A few things tipped police and fire investigators off that things were a little odd about the situation. One person was sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation from a Sunday morning fire that damaged eight units at the Lake Sweetwater Apartments in unincorporated Lawrenceville. The apartments are located at 3100 Sweetwater Road. According to Gwinnett Fire Lt. Colin Rhoden, 14 people were displaced by the fire, which was reported by a 911 caller around 7 a.m. The fire was under control before 8 a.m. Rhoden reported heavy damage to second-floor apartments on the backside of the building. Residents from 14 units were evacuated. No other injuries were reported. A Duluth family narrowly escaped an early morning fire Sunday that ravaged their top floor second-story apartment at the Madison at Breckinridge Apartments by jumping from the balcony. A man and his fiancé jumped from the second floor balcony of the burning apartment after discovering they and their infant daughter could not safely exit out the front door, Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge reported. The man went over first and the woman lowered the child before jumping herself. An adult male cousin in a separate bedroom was able to escape out the front door. Sunday night at 8:38 p.m. Gwinnett Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at the Concept 21 - The Corners apartments located at 3400 Peachtree Corners Circle. When firefighters arrived they found light smoke inside an apartment from a small smoldering fire on an exterior wall in the patio area of a single-apartment unit. The fire appears accidental and no injuries were reported. There was no one home at the time of the fire. There is no structural damage reported and no one is being displaced per the incident commander.
