Tuesday marks the 11th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Will you take time to remember the nearly 3,000 who lost their lives?
It was a Tuesday, 11 years ago that the unthinkable happened - the United States was attacked by terrorists. In the early morning hours while people where heading to work, or beginning their morning work routines, two planes, piloted by Al-Qaeda terrorists, crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York, another flew into the Pentagon and a third, its intended target, the White House, crashed into a Pennsylvania field. Its mission thwarted by a brave group of passengers who knew their lives were doomed. I sent off my oldest son to fight in the Iraq War which was linked to the terrorist attacks. It was another man's war that drew hundreds of thousands of Americans to the Far East land. I was lucky, he returned, many did …

Brett Smith said expansion of Briscoe Field could be good for residents in Lawrenceville and Dacula.
In a press conference Monday, CEO of Propeller Airports Brett Smith, urged the Gwinnett Board of Commissioners to delay the vote on Briscoe Field in Lawrenceville. Smith wants Commissioners to wait to fill the vacancy in District 1 after Shirley Lasseter resigned last week after pleading guilty to federal bribery charges. The vote is scheduled Tuesday, June 5. "People in Dacula and Lawrenceville have more to gain from this than anybody," said Smith. Watch the video to see what Smith said about how commercializing the airport can benefit residents living near the airport. In a press release Monday, anti-expansion group Citizens for a Better Gwinnett called Smith's press conference "an admission that they know they're going to lose." Patch …

Former Duluth mayor has resigned as Gwinnett commissioner. Her son, a former Gwinnett zoning official, pleaded guilty to bribery and drug trafficking charges.
Updated June 1 Shirley Lasseter, whose Gwinnett Board of Commissioners District 1 included Suwanee and Duluth, has pleaded guilty to accepting a bribe, federal authorities confirmed Thursday. Lasseter's sentencing is set for Aug. 6, and she faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and a fine up to a $250,000, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Atlanta. The Duluth resident resigned her Gwinnett office Thursday. She accepted $36,500 in bribes from an undercover FBI agent posing as a South Florida real estate developer, authorities said. The bribe concerned her support for a proposed development on Boggs Road. Lasseter is the third Gwinnett commissioner in less than two years to resign from office amid accusations of wrongdoing. And we are off and running. OK, maybe we are off and limping, with little change since the end of the year. For this update we will use two elementary schools, Peachtree and Simpson to define our search. Once Peachtree Corners becomes a city in July we will be able to use the City of Peachtree Corners to bring you the sales reports for the area. There are 96 active listings. At the beginning of the month there were 92 active listings so inventory is beginning to go up which is normal for this time of the year. Six homes sold in January. This means that there is a 16 month supply of homes to sell if we don’t see considerable increases of the next few months. However, there are six homes waiting lender approval (these are the short sales…

Gail... With your half full glass and my half empty glass... our bottle is completely drained :(. Now we have to go to the store and buy another bottle :). You are correct to say that Mrs. Lasseter is singularly responsible for this individual action...not the entire board. However, in the last 5 years the current members have not been saints either (and actually way before that too). I believe …   more ›
