Gwinnett County Police have identified the wrong-way driver who crashed into a railing and died early Saturday after traveling in the wrong direction on I-85 South and Highway 316 West in Lawrenceville, according to media reports. The driver of the 1997 Honda Civic was Gerson Ambrocio Hernan, 22, of Stockbridge, as reported by the Gwinnett Daily Post. Speed and reckless driving appear to be factors in the crash, according to the article, and a pending blood test will determine if alcohol played a part in the collision. According to a news release from Sgt. Rich Long of Gwinnett Police, reports started coming in around 2 a.m. March 30 about the wrong-way driver on the DeKalb County side of I-85 South. The driver, a 70-year-old man, was allegedly drunk, and may have intentionally rammed 15 vehicles. The victim has been identified as Mintiwab Woldeyhans, 69.
Snellville and Gwinnett County Police responded to a devastating scene late Wednesday night, Jan. 23, after an alleged drunk driver caused a total of 15 accidents stretching from Memorial Drive in DeKalb to Walton Court just outside of Snellville city limits. According to Gwinnett Police Cpl. Jake Smith, the driver ended his rampage when he crashed into John Boy's restaurant on Highway 78. The five-vehicle crash, on Walton, resulted in a fatality. Update, 10:15 p.m. Around 200 students, faculty members and locals attended a vigil for the deceased student Sunday evening at Meadowcreek High, according to a report from the Gwinnett Daily Post. Others left memorials near the accident site on Steve Reynolds Boulevard. The report also notes that the third person injured is also a student. Gwinnett County police released the names of the people killed Friday in a multi-vehicle accident on 1-985. Deceased are Donna Keese, 60, and her husband, John Keese, 62, of Lawrenceville. According to the police's press release, four vehicles were involved, including the grey Nissan Altima that was driven by Donna Keese. Stephen Scott, of Lithonia, driving a white box truck, was deemed the at-fault driver and was subsequently charged. A driver and two passengers in a blue Dodge Ram pickup were transported to the hospital with non threatening injuries. Scott and the driver of the fourth vehicle, a maroon Saturn minivan towing a small trailer with an ATV on it, received no significant injuries. Scott was arrested after being evaluated …
