Is Traffic Signal at S.R. 141 and Medlock Bridge Road Mis-Timed?

During rush hour, traffic on Medlock Bridge Road and E. Jones Bridge Road is known to back up and requires several light changes to get through the intersection.

Do you travel Medlock Bridge Road to S.R. 141 in the morning rush hour? If so, you no doubt agree it's a bear to navigate.

On Friday, Nov. 22, Sydney Longshore who travels through the intersection regularly, posted a question on the Peachtree Corners Patch Facebook page asking if the traffic signal's timing had been altered.

"I think the red light at 141 and East Jones Bridge/Medlock is mis-timed, wrote Longshore. "Traffic has been so bad this week as the light is not letting enough folks cross 141."

So Patch contacted the Gwinnett Department of Transportation asking if the timing at that intersection had been changed recently.

Charles Bailey, Gwinnett DOT's Traffic Engineering & Planning Division Director quickly responded to the query and sent someone out to check. Bailey said engineers checked the signal at that intersection both in the morning and afternoon rush hours and found the timing had not changed nor were there "malfunctioning hardware or equipment at the intersection."

Bailey explained that the portion of S.R. 141 that extends from the split at Peachtree Industrial Boulevard all the way to S.R. 400 in Forsyth County has been designated as a regionally significant corridor and is part of the Georgia Department of Transportation's Regional Traffic Operations Program.

"A consultant corridor manager has been assigned by GDOT to maintain the traffic signal timings during the peak hours and promote traffic flow along the SR 141 arterial," said Bailey.

The GDOT director said the consultant corridor manager has been contacted to check into the timing and back-up at the intersection. But due to the holidays it will be the end of next week before they can get out to check the timing and make any necessary timing adjustments.

So for all of you are stuck each rush hour at the intersection, maybe there is hope on the horizon.

Bailey said that citizens can call Gwinnett County DOT at 770-822-7400 or enter a request on-line at the following link - Citizen Self Service Request Center to inquire about a signal or traffic problem.
