Police are investigating the Thursday shooting death of a 40-year-old man at the Hidden Cove Apartments.

UPDATE: June 16, 2012

Gwinnett Police are investigating the Thursday night death of a Hidden Cove Apartments resident who apparently was caught in the middle of a drug deal that had gone bad.

Gwinnet Police found a 40-year-old black male in the parking lot of the apartment complex dead from several gun shot wounds. The man was later identified as Ulice Leatherberry.

Police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith said that Leatherberry had been involved in a drug deal earlier in the day and apparently the buyers were not "satisfied with the drugs they had purchased and attempted to get their money back from the victim."

Leatherberry was the apparent "middle-man," in the deal and unable to return the money demanded by the buyers. "At about 11:30 p.m., Leatherberry fled his apartment and tried to evade the suspects. The suspects caught up with him in the parking lot and fired several rounds at him. He was struck and killed by one of the shots," said Smith.

Police are not releasing any information about the suspects in the shooting as they continue their investigation. Anyone with information on this case may call GCPD detectives at 770-513-5300.
