Inspector Threatens to Pull Permit on KFC/Taco Bell for Unclean Conditions

Five Peachtree Corners restaurants recently inspected by Health Department with scores ranging from 80-B to 100-A. Find out if your favorite eatery is on the list.

Following is a list of five Peachtree Corners restaurants which have been inspected recently by the Gwinnett County's Board of Health.

Inspectors from the Board inspect area restaurants every six months and then grade them based on extensive criteria that include everything from food being stored at proper temperatures to employee hygiene.

Restaurants are required to display these reports in a prominent place for diners to view. This is what we found in a random search of inspections on the county's website.

Name: TEN Bistro
Location: 5005 Peachtree Parkway, Suite 820
Inspection Date: Oct. 16, 2013
Grade: 97-A
Comments: Utensils and plates not being stored in a clean, dry location. Observed clean plates and utensils being stored in unclean containers (food debris located on bottom of container). Utensils and plates were moved to clean container. Must ensure all utensils and containers are stored in a clean, dry place.

Grade: 92-A
Comments: 
1. Food contact surfaces not clean to sight and touch. Interior of ice shoot for customer drink machine not clean (buildup of debris). Person in charge cleaned and sanitized interior of ice machine at time of inspection. Must ensure all food contact surfaces are clean to sight and touch.
2. Food not stored at least 6 inches above the floor. At time of inspection, observed bag of dough being stored on floor. Bag removed off of floor. Must ensure all foods are properly stored 6 inches or more off of floor.
3. Equipment and utensils not being stored in a clean, dry location. At time of inspection, observed clean utensils being stored in unclean container. Observed clean food lids being stored in a container that had a buildup of standing water. All utensils removed at time of inspection. Must ensure all utensils and equipment are properly stored in a clean, dry place.

Name: Marco's Pizza
Location: 5270 Peachtree Parkway, Suite 106
Inspection Date: Oct. 9, 2013
Grade: 81-B
Comments: 
1. Employee gathered produce that had fallen on the floor and then donned gloves to slice tomatoes. Employee corrected action by washing hands and putting on fresh gloves. Employees must wash hands in-between changing gloves, when going between tasks, and whenever hands become contaminated.
2. .Pizza sauce was portioned in individual serving containers and left out at room temperature. Large container of pizza sauce that the sauce was portioned from was left out on container and the temperature was above 41 degrees Fahrenheit. Ham and Swiss cheese in prep area refrigerator were above 41 degrees Fahrenheit. All items were discarded. Any item that is a potentially hazardous food such as the ham, cheese and pizza sauce must be kept at or below 41 degrees Fahrenheit'
3. Dumpster was missing drain plug. Install drain plug. All dumpsters must have drain plug to prevent waste from leaking out of the dumpster or attracting pests and rodents.

Grade: 80-B
Comments: Interior of multiple food storage containers with food residue. Had person in charge pull containers & relocate to wearewashing area. Food contact surfaces must be clean to sight & touch. IF THIS ITEM IS MARKED OUT OF COMPLIANCE ON THE NEXT ROUTINE INSPECTION, THEN THE PERMIT MAY BE SUSPENDED. 
2. Hot-held potentially hazardous foods not maintained above 135oF; no time controls/documentation in place. Food below 135 deg. F DISCARDED. Must hold at 135 deg. F or higher. 
3. Health score posted behind service counter. Health score must be posted within 15 feet of entrance, 5-7 feet from the floor, AND readable within 1 foot.  New Violation.
4. Facility rinsing chicken wash containers at utility sink and then taking them back to the prep table. Facility needs to utilize the ware-washing sink for the washing of food equipment. Food service equipment must be washed with soap, rinsed, & then sanitized prior to re-using.
