Think Gas Prices are High? It's All Relative

Gas prices hovering around the $3.60 mark in Peachtree Corners, but it's a bargain compared to some places.

The national average for a gallon of regular gas is nearly 95 cents higher than this time last year, but compared to what drivers pay in other countries it could be considered a bargain.

According to a report from Kiplinger, the cost of a gallon of regular gas in Canada is $5.56 and in France, it will cost $8.29 a gallon to fill up. But in Venezuela a gallon is just .08 cents per gallon.

The main factor in the wide range in price disparities between countries is taxes. According to the report Europeans pay steep fuel taxes to fund public transit systems and other projects while oil-rich countries such as Venezuela offer generous subsidies to keep gas prices dirt cheap.
