Berkeley Resident and Former Stripling Elementary Teacher Passes Away

Charon Caye Chase of Berkeley Lake, Georgia, passed away on December 10th at home at the age of 54.

Born on July 30, 1958 in Livonia, Michigan to Marjorie and Ellsworth Chase, Charon earned a Bachelor's of Business Administration from Michigan State University in 1980 and went on to a career with Abbott Laboratories/Hospira before retiring at 50 years of age to start a new career in teaching.

Charon attended Mercer University and received a Master's in Teaching in Spring 2011. After graduating, Charon taught 2nd grade at Stripling Elementary School, Norcross, Georgia. Charon was an avid organic gardener, loved the outdoors, spending time with family and friends and walking her dogs.

Charon is survived by her husband David and son Jacob; mother Marjorie Chase; sister Janet Chase Vitak, brother-in-law David, their children Ethan and Connor; brother Gregory Chase and his son Arthur.

The service will be held on Saturday, December 15th at 2:00 p.m. at Norcross First United Methodist Church, 2500 Beaver Ruin Road, Norcross, Georgia 30071.

A celebration of life will take place in immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall. In honor of Charon's life, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
