City Assesses Georgia Power Customer Franchise Fees

City of Peachtree Corners issues corrected information on Georgia Power franchise fees.

Editor's note: The City of Peachtree Corners has issued the following statement.

A press release issued by the City of Peachtree Corners and published November 22, 2013 in Peachtree Corners Patch incorrectly attributed the increase on Georgia Power bills for Peachtree Corners’ residents to Georgia Power Company and the Georgia Public Service Commission.

This was incorrect. In fact, the increase of approximately $2.36 per month for a residential customer using 1,000 kwh is due to the assessment of a franchise fees on behalf of the City of Peachtree Corners.

Franchise fees are pass-through charges for the City of Peachtree Corners that are billed by Georgia Power Company.  We apologize for the error.

Thanks for the tax increase, Peachtree Corners. Really innovative and remarkable.

First, it should be noted that presently Peachtree Corners has no property tax that is authorized by the charter. Second, the franchise fee is a cost of doing business that Ga. Power is passing on to us. Third, see, http://www.gmanet.com/MDR.aspx?CNID=21440 for an explanation of franchise fees.
