The U.S. Congress voted Monday night to renew a ban on plastic guns aimed at eliminating firearms that can evade airport detection machines according to an Associated Press report.

Gun-control supporters had pushed for tougher restrictions introduced by Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) which would require that such weapons contain metal parts that can not be detached but GOP senators rejected the effort.

"Who in God's name wants to let plastic guns pass through metal detectors at airports or stadiums?" Schumer said in an interview Monday.

The National Riffle Association expressed no opposition to renewing the ban but said it would lobby against any "expanded requirements" that would infringe on Second Amendment rights to bear arms.

All this comes on the eve of the 1-year anniversary of the Sandy Hook shootings in which 20 elementary school children and six adults died at the hands of 20-year-old gunman Adam Lanza on Dec. 14, 2012.

According to the report, "plastic guns have become a growing threat and can now be produced by 3-D printers ..."

How do you feel about the current ban on plastic guns. Is it strong enough, or should plastic firearms be required to contain undetachable metal parts?

I'm sure the criminals will strictly adhere to this brilliant piece of legislation. Outlawing politicians and HOA Nazis would be more productive.
