Green Brothers, local landscaping and supply company, expects to be open by spring 2014.

Green Brothers, a fixture in the landscape and nursery business since 1956, is coming to town.

Tuesday night the Peachtree Corners Planning Commission approved a rezoning request to allow the family-owned business to set up shop on the site of a former lumber yard located on S. Peachtree Road just a block off of Jimmy Carter Boulevard.

Green Brothers will sell landscape timbers, Bermuda and Zoysia sod, stone, mulch, pine straw, sand, gravel and decorative pebbles on the 1.75 acre site.

"We will open in the spring," said Mike Laroway, who also operates a location in Buford. There are also locations in Alpharetta, Marietta and Woodstock.

Laroway, said he expects to initially have three employees but hopes to eventually employ six as the business expands.

Green Brothers once operated 20 locations throughout the metro area, but today operate five. The company plans on purchasing the old Norcross Supply lumber yard site and closing its location on Goshen Springs Road. in unincorporated Norcross.

The rezoning request was recommended by Diana Wheeler and included nine conditions including repairing or replacing the current chain link fencing and clearing the property of litter, weeds and debris and adding signage that meets the city's codes.

The request was approved 4-0.

The property had been abandoned since 2007 when a fire destroyed the lumber business which first opened in 1946.
