According to a press release, Nike has many green initiatives for reusing shoes. For example, the company recycles the shoes' rubber outsole for use on track surfaces, interlocking gym floor tiles and playground surfaces, and the shoes' midsoles can be used as a cushion for outdoor basketball and tennis courts.

Nike has collected more than 25 million pairs of shoes worldwide since 1990, according to the release.

Parents and community members can either drop off donated shoes directly at the school or send the shoes with students to give to the school. Shoes will be accepted at school starting today, March 19, through Friday, March 23, during school hours. Donations can also be dropped off during the day on Saturday, March 24. Pinckneyville Middle is located at 4550 W. Jones Bridge Road.

A doughnut party will be provided for the winning homeroom from each grade level.Β
