Olympics 2012: U.S. Leading Overall Medal Count

The U.S. also leads in gold medals as the games enter the final weekend.

Attention, fans of the 2012 Olympics: The United States leads the overall medal countΒ as the sporting spectacle enters its final weekend.

Also, the U.S. has a narrow lead in the gold-medal total. China is second in both categories. The London Games end Sunday, Aug. 12.

The top medal winner is U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps, with four golds and six overall.Β Phelps now possesses 22 medals for his career. This includes 18 golds.
